On 11 May, - Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute co-organised the the Wave 2026 Cyprus event, held in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union and bringing together policymakers, researchers, innovators, and industry leaders to discuss the future of the blue economy and ocean sustainability.

🎲The Mr.Goodfish3.0 booth attracted strong interest with Pillars of the Sea, its interactive serious board game promoting ocean literacy, responsible seafood consumption, and informed decision-making for healthier seas.

The event offered a valuable opportunity to connect with Europe’s Ocean Community and strengthen collaboration for more sustainable marine ecosystems.

[EN] What about the Mr.Goodfish committees ?🐟️

🗺️ Last week, the 3 Mr.Goodfish committees took place. These meetings bring together the Mr.Goodfish team and professionals of the fishing industry who play a role in preparing next season’s poster.

🌊 One committee is held with professionals from the English Channel / North Sea region, another with those from the Brittany / Atlantic region, and a third with professionals from the Mediterranean region.

➡️ On Thursday, May 7, during the English Channel / North Sea committee meeting, which was held in person, the program manager at Nausicaá, Justine Delettre, presented the new Mr.Goodfish exhibition.

☀️ Together, they determine which wild species will be recommended by our program — in this case, for summer 2026. These species will therefore appear on our summer poster starting June 22, as seasonal fish.

🧑‍🔬 However, the selection of these seasonal fish is not random. Mr.Goodfish and marine industry professionals make their decisions based on a scientific assessment carried out by Ifremer and on the recommendations of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea. They also rely on 3️⃣ specific Mr.Goodfish criteria, all of which are essential for a species to receive the “Mr.Goodfish” label.

🦐 Thus, for a species to appear on one of our seasonal posters, it must meet the following conditions:

✅️ Its natural resource status must allow for long-term exploitation, thanks to a healthy stock. In other words, the population size must be sufficient to ensure that fishing does not risk causing its collapse.

✅️ The species must not be exploited during its peak breeding season, allowing the population to regenerate under good conditions.

✅️ Its minimum catch size must correspond to the size at which it reaches first sexual maturity, allowing fish to grow and reproduce once they become adults.

[FR] Mercredi 22 avril, une quinzaine de personnes ont assisté à la présentation du programme Mr.Goodfish, réalisée par notre chargé de mission Paul.

Pour l'occasion, un plateau de produits de la mer a été spécialement dressé par les équipes restauration de Nausicaá - Centre National de la Mer.🍴

Celui-ci était composé de 2 espèces labellisées Mr.Goodfish :

🐟️ Le Lieu noir : poisson de saison d'origine sauvage, recommandé par Mr.Goodfish en provenance des zones de pêche 27.5a et b.
🦐 La crevette tigrée de Madagascar : crustacé produit à Madagascar, principalement sur la côte Ouest.

[EN] Wednesday April 22, around 15 people attended the presentation of the Mr.Goodfish's program, realised by our program officer Paul Ruchon.

For the occasion, the catering teams of Nausicaá - Centre National de la Mer specially prepared a seafood platter. 🍴

2 species certified by Mr.Goodfish were featured :

🐟️ The Saithe : a wild seasonal fish, recommended from fishing area 27.5a and b.
🦐 The Giant tiger prawn : a farmed crustacean, mainly produced on the West coast of Madagascar.

[FR] Mr.Goodfish s'adresse aux professionnels de la mer de tout notre continent. 🌎️

A l’occasion de leur venue à Boulogne-sur-Mer les 14 et 21 avril, différents pêcheurs polonais originaires du secteur de Gdańsk ont pu découvrir notre engagement.

🐟️ Paul Ruchon, chargé de mission Mr.Goodfish, a notamment reçu les membres de l’association du lagon de la Vistule et la chambre nationale des producteurs de poissons.

Un voyage qui s’inscrit dans le cadre d’une formation pour développer les connaissances des producteurs et pêcheurs côtiers polonais, membre d’organisations.

[EN] Mr.Goodfish is intended for seafood professionals across our continent. 🌍️

While they visited Boulogne-sur-Mer the April 14 and 21, several Polish fishermen from Gdańsk could discover our commitment.

🐟️ Mr.Goodfish’s program officer Paul Ruchon welcomed the Vistula Lagoon Fishermen’s Association and the National Chamber of Fish Producers.

This trip is part of a training program aimed at developing the knowledge of coastal producers and fishermen from Poland, who are members of organizations.

[FR] Finale des Jeunes Disciples Escoffier 2026 🏆️

🧑‍🍳 Du 16 au 19 avril s’est tenue la 18ème édition des Rencontres Internationales des Disciples Escoffier International, association partenaire de notre programme.

Mr.Goodfish, représenté par notre chargé de mission Paul Ruchon, a assisté à la finale le 16 avril, à Paris. Il a eu l’honneur d’être membre du jury, pour le concours « Service en salle ».

🥇 Félicitations à la Polynésie Française pour sa victoire dans cette catégorie.
🥇 Félicitations à la France pour sa victoire dans le concours « Cuisine ».

Cet événement a aussi été l’occasion de présenter Mr.Goodfish et ses actions, aux côtés de 2 autres partenaires : Vivalya, représenté par Aurélia Planson, et le Réseau Le Saint, représenté par Sophie Meric.

Mr.Goodfish s’est également rendu à la soirée de Gala du 18ème Congrès International des Disciples Escoffier, qui a eu lieu au Palais de la Bourse de Marseille.

🧑‍🍳 From April 16 to 19, the 18th edition of the International Meetings of the Disciples Escoffier International, a partner association of our program, took place.

Mr.Goodfish was represented by our program officer Paul Ruchon, who attended the final on April 16 in Paris. He had the honor of serving as a jury member for the “Front-of-House Service” competition.

🥇 Congratulations to French Polynesia for its victory in this category.
🥇 Congratulations to France for its victory in the “Cuisine” competition.

This event was also an opportunity to present the Mr.Goodfish program alongside 2 other partners : Vivalya, represented by Aurélia Planson, and Réseau Le Saint, represented by Sophie Meric.

Mr.Goodfish also attended the Gala Evening of the 18th International Congress of the Disciples Escoffier. It took place at the Palais de la Bourse in Marseille.

[FR] D'après le bilan 2025 de l'Ifremer, "50% des volumes de poissons débarqués en France hexagonale en 2024 proviennent de populations exploitées durablement". Un chiffre en hausse comparé à l'année 2023. 📈

✅️ Parmi les espèces issues de la pêche durable, on retrouve notamment la coquille Saint-Jacques (Manche), le Calamar (golfe de Gascogne) et le Bar (Manche, mer du Nord, golfe de Gascogne).

⚠️ Parmi les espèces menacées et surexploitées, on retrouve le Maquereau (Atlantique), la Sole (Manche Est) et le Merlu (Méditerranée).

[EN] According to the Ifremer’s report of 2025, “50% of the fish volumes landed in mainland France in 2024 come from the sustainably exploited stocks”. It’s more than 2023. 📈

✅️ Among the species resulting from sustainable fishing are the Scallop (English Channel), the Squid (Bay of Biscay) and the seabass (English Channel, North Sea and Bay of Biscay).

⚠️ Among the threatened and overexploited species are the Mackerel (Atlantic), the Sole (Eastern English Channel), and the hake (Mediterranean).

Du 31 mars au 6 avril, le port de Sète a été animé par la traditionnelle fête maritime Escale à Sète ! ⛵️

Paul Ruchon, chargé de mission Mr.Goodfish 🐟️, est allé y présenter notre programme au grand public. Un déplacement organisé avec Boulogne la mer en direct.

From March 31 to April 6, the port of Sète was animated with the traditional Escale à Sète maritime event! ⛵️
