بعد ثلاث سنوات على «أوبنهايمر»، يعود كريستوفر نولان بمعالجة سينمائية لملحمة هوميروس، صوّرها بالكامل بكاميرات آيماكس بين اليونان وإيطاليا وأيسلندا والمغرب.

يؤدي مات ديمون دور أوديسيوس في رحلة العودة إلى إيثاكا بعد حرب طروادة، إلى جانب آن هاثاواي في دور بينيلوبي، وتوم هولاند في دور تيليماخوس، وزندايا في دور الإلهة أثينا.

«محاولة عن سد الفرات» هو أول أفلام عمر أميرلاي بعد عودته إلى سوريا عقب دراسته السينما في باريس، ويوثق لحظة آمن فيها، ولو مؤقتًا، بطموحات النظام البعثي وما وعد به من تغيير اقتصادي وسياسي. ورغم انحياز الفيلم الواضح إلى مشروع السد، تظل شهادات أهل المنطقة، المقدمة من دون موسيقى مصاحبة، وثيقة ثمينة عن المقاومة والصمود.

أما في «الحياة اليومية في قرية سورية»، فنرى أثر التعاون بين أميرلاي وسعد الله ونوس، المسرحي والمفكر السوري الذي سيعود للعمل معه لاحقًا في فيلم مستقل. هنا تظهر تصدعات المشروع البعثي من خلال شهادات المزارعين بعد بناء السد؛ فلم يأتِ الرخاء، ولا حتى التنمية الموعودة، مع تجريف الأرض واقتلاع أنماط العيش التي عرفها السكان.

نعرض الفيلمين ضمن الجزء الثاني من برنامجنا الاستعادي لأفلام يوسف شاهين، في حوار مع فيلميه عن السد العالي. معًا، تتتبع هذه الأفلام وعود مشاريع التنمية الوطنية الكبرى وأثمانها، وتتساءل: من تُروى حكايته؟ ومن تُمحى حكايته؟ وما الذي يبقى بعد أن ترتفع المياه؟

Made shortly after Omar Amiralay returned to Syria from studying film in Paris, Film Essay on the Euphrates Dam captures a moment when he still believed in the Ba'athist state's promises of economic and political transformation. Yet even as the film embraces the dam project, the unscored testimonies of local residents stand as powerful records of endurance and resistance.

Everyday Life in a Syrian Village, made years later in collaboration with Syrian playwright Saadallah Wannous, reveals the cracks in those same promises through the voices of farmers living in the dam's aftermath.

Together with Youssef Chahine’s High Dam films, these films trace the promises and costs of large-scale national development projects, asking whose stories are celebrated, whose are erased, and what remains after the waters rise.

يُعد متين إركسان أحد رواد السينما التركية الحديثة، ومن أوائل المخرجين الذين تجاوزوا تقاليد الميلودراما نحو سينما واقعية تنشغل بقضايا المجتمع. في رائعته «صيف جاف» (١٩٦٤)، الحائزة على الدب الذهبي في مهرجان برلين السينمائي، يتحول نزاع بين شقيقين حول نبع يروي قرية بأكملها إلى صراع أوسع حول الملكية والسلطة، تتداخل فيه الرغبة مع العنف والسيطرة.

يُعرض الفيلم ضمن الجزء الثاني من برنامجنا الاستعادي لأفلام يوسف شاهين، في حوار مع «الأرض» (١٩٦٩)، حيث يغدو الماء هنا، كما الأرض في فيلم شاهين، ساحةً للصراع السياسي والاجتماعي، لا مجرد مورد طبيعي. ومن خلال تعقيدات الحياة الريفية، يقدم الفيلمان رؤيتين متكاملتين للحظة تاريخية أعاد فيها صناع الأفلام في بلدان الجنوب العالمي التفكير في العلاقة بين الطبيعة والمجتمع، في ظل مشاريع التحول الوطني.

Metin Erksan was a pioneering figure of modern Turkish cinema and among the first directors to move beyond the conventions of melodrama toward social realism. In his masterpiece Dry Summer (1964), winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, a dispute between two brothers over a spring that sustains an entire village becomes a struggle over property and power, where violence and desire become inseparable.

Presented alongside Youssef Chahine's The Land, the film reveals how water, like land, can become a site of political and social conflict rather than simply a natural resource. Both films offer nuanced portrayals of rural life to explore questions of ownership and justice, offering complementary visions of a moment when filmmakers across the Global South reimagined the relationship between nature and society amid national transformation.

في مطلع الألفية، كاد كريستوفر نولان أن يخرج فيلمًا عن حرب طروادة، لكنه انسحب حينها معترفًا بأن المشروع أكبر من إمكاناته. اليوم، وبعد عقدين أمضاهما بين «باتمان» و«أوبنهايمر»، يعود إلى اليونان القديمة وقد امتلك أدواته كاملة.

صوّر نولان ملحمته في سبع دول، من سواحل اليونان وصقلية إلى صحراء المغرب وجليد آيسلندا، مصرًّا على التصوير في مواقع حقيقية وبخدع عملية، بعيدًا عن الشاشات الخضراء. والنتيجة كما وصفها هو نفسه: الفيلم الذي انتظره طوال مسيرته.

At the turn of the millennium, Christopher Nolan came close to directing a film about the Trojan War, then walked away, admitting the project was beyond him. Two decades later, after The Dark Knight, Inception, Dunkirk, and Oppenheimer, he returns to ancient Greece with his craft fully formed.

Nolan shot his epic across seven countries, from the coasts of Greece and Sicily to the Moroccan desert and the ice of Iceland, insisting on real locations and practical effects over green screens. The result, in his own words, is the film he has spent his entire career preparing for.

رغم أن «الأرض» (١٩٦٩) أُنتج بدعم كامل من الدولة المصرية بوصفه فيلمًا تاريخيًا عن نضال الفلاحين، ويبدو للوهلة الأولى منسجمًا مع خطاب الإصلاح الزراعي في عهد عبد الناصر، إلا أن عرضه بعد هزيمة ١٩٦٧ منح الفيلم معنى آخر. فاستقبلته الجماهير المصرية بوصفه مرثيةً للأرض المسلوبة، وتأملًا في الهزيمة وتفكك المشروع الوطني، ليصبح أحد أكثر أفلام يوسف شاهين كثافةً وعمقًا من الناحية السياسية.

عُرض الفيلم في مهرجان كان السينمائي عام ١٩٧٠، حيث رسّخ مكانة شاهين عالميًا، ولفت الأنظار إلى تصوير عبد الحليم نصر، وموسيقى علي إسماعيل، والأداء الاستثنائي لمحمود المليجي، في واحد من أبرز أدواره.

Produced with full state support as a historical drama celebrating the Egyptian peasantry, The Land (1969) initially appeared to align with Nasser-era narratives of agrarian reform. Yet, released in the aftermath of the 1967 defeat, it came to be read as a meditation on the Naksa itself: loss, dispossession, and the fractures within the national project.

Premiering at the 1970 Cannes Film Festival, The Land established Youssef Chahine as a major international filmmaker, earning lasting acclaim for Abdel Halim Nasr's cinematography, Ali Ismail's score, and one of Mahmoud El Meliguy's greatest screen performances.
