في هذا الفيلم، يحوّل ماكس أوبهولس زوج من الأقراط الماسية إلى موقع تتلاقى فيه الرغبة مع الطبقة والذاكرة. بتصويره الانسيابي وبنيته السردية الفريدة والآسرة، يعتبر «حَلَق السيدة …» أحد أعظم أفلام الميلودراما وأكثرها تأثيرًا في تاريخ السينما.
يأتي عرض الفيلم ضمن برنامجنا الاستعادي لأفلام يوسف شاهين المبكرة، حيث تتقاطع سينما أوبهولس مع شاهين في اهتمامهما بالحركة والمشاعر المكبوتة والعلاقات التي تعيد تشكيل مصائر أصحابها. وكما عند شاهين، لا تنفصل الرومانسية هنا عن المجتمع، ولا يصبح الحب ممكنًا إلا بثمن.

Through fluid camera movements and an exquisitely circular structure, The Earrings of Madame de… remains one of the defining masterpieces of cinematic melodrama.
Presented as part of our retrospective of early Youssef Chahine films, Ophuls’s cinema resonates deeply with Chahine’s own fascination with movement, emotional repression, and relationships that quietly alter the course of people’s lives. As in Chahine’s work, romance here can never be separated from society, and love never arrives without cost.
