We are thrilled to present the World Premiere of »Strange Neighbors« by Mi Steinbach.

For the first time in its history, the Oldenburg International Film Festival will open with a documentary.

Mi Steinbach's debut unfolds on Schwarztonnensand, a tiny island in the Elbe that isn't even natural to begin with, it was built from dredged sand during the deepening of the shipping channel, and has since become home to white-tailed eagles, geese and deer living in the shadow of heavy industry.

For her debut film, Mi Steinbach spent several years exploring the island with her camera. »Strange Neighbors« tells its story of nature and civilization without a single word, relying instead on image and sound, composed by Robert Nacken and edited by Bernhard Reddig.

Mi Steinbach, Robert Nacken and Bernhard Redding will be in Oldenburg to present the world premiere on Opening Night.

The 33rd Oldenburg International Film Festival celebrates Neil LaBute with a Retrospective.

Since "In the Company of Men" (1997), his films have turned offices, marriages, and friendships into stages for a distinctly American cruelty, dressed in the language of politeness.

The Retrospective spans his career, from his Sundance breakout, "In the Company of Men," and the scathing "Your Friends & Neighbors," to the Cannes-winning "Nurse Betty," the taut two-hander "Some Velvet Morning," and, most recently, the horror chamber piece "House of Darkness."

Neil LaBute will attend the Festival from 16 to 20 September and present the World Premiere of his latest film, "Murderous."

DARK STAR HITS OLDENBURG

Carpenters Debütfilm wird mit jedem Mal schauen besser, ein signifikantes Zeichen für einen Kultfilm. Die neurotischen Hippieastronauten, das außerirdische Killergemüse und natürlich Bombe 20 sind Zutaten, die man nicht oft genug zelebrieren kann.

In Kooperation mit dem zeigen wir den Kultklassiker und Inspiration für den Festivaltrailer. Kommt vorbei und probiert endlich unseren exkulsiven Filmfest Cocktail!

The trailer for 2026 pays homage to John Carpenter’s 1974 debut, »Dark Star«. Co-written with Dan O’Bannon, the film was an ultra-low-budget counterpoint to Kubrick’s »2001: A Space Odyssey« and later served as a sort of comic blueprint for another sci-fi classic: Dan O’Bannon’s »Alien« (1979, directed by Ridley Scott). The festival trailer takes that 1970s theme of long space voyages and ironically translates it into a long journey through the facets of a contentious festival history—a struggle for cultural recognition.

The trailer was produced with the support of Oeins, M101 Media, iyuno, and TrickWilk.

We're thrilled to announce that Zoë Bell will receive this year's Honorary Tribute Award at the 33rd Edition of the Oldenburg International Film Festival.

For decades, stunt work was cinema's invisible art: essential, yet unseen. Zoë Bell broke that mold. She transformed stunt doubling into an art form in its own right, from her breakout years on "Xena: Warrior Princess" to doubling Uma Thurman in "Kill Bill," to becoming an actress in her own right in Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof."

Few careers reveal the risk and precision behind cinema's biggest moments quite like hers.

Zoë Bell will be our guest in Oldenburg from September 16 to 20, presenting her films.
