Jonas Steiner (Switzerland) receives the Short Film Award for “Risky Routes.” 🎥

In “Risky Routes,” thousands of toads embark on their annual journey back to their breeding waters, facing dangerous roads and countless obstacles along the way. It is a powerful story about survival and the fragile paths of wildlife. 🌧️🐸

Over the past year, Uta Wasmuth has been a regular guest at our Wednesday Wildlife Cinema at the Wildlife Embassy, enthusiastically watching the films and casting her vote for the EWFA Audience Award. 🎬

At the European Wildlife Film Awards Gala, she joined us for the evening and kindly shared her thoughts in a short interview – including which films impressed her the most.

One film she found particularly fascinating was Fabulous Insects – Ants. 🐜
Good news: you can watch the film at our Wildlife Cinema on the 5th of August!

Join us for an evening of wildlife cinema and help decide who wins the Audience Award. 🗳️✨

At the EWFA, Dagny Lüdemann served on the jury for the second time – and we spoke with her about her experience and how it felt to be part of the jury again. 🎥

Discovering undiscovered life on Earth is at the heart of her work. The biologist, science journalist and passionate diver reports from the field as Chief Science Reporter for DIE ZEIT. She covers wildlife and endangered species, investigating how and why humans are destroying their environment – and, more importantly, how this destruction can be stopped.

She has accompanied wildlife filmmakers on adventurous shoots and, as a jury member at various festivals, has watched hundreds of nature documentaries. Her personal goal: to create her own wildlife film one day.✨

Inspired by the many great films she mentions in the interview? Join us for our Wildlife Film Night every Wednesday evening.🎬🤍

We’re still very much in the spirit of the European Wildlife Film Awards. 🏆
To give you deeper insights into the event, we spoke with award winners, jury members, guests — and the artist behind the trophy. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing these special perspectives with you.

We begin with the creator of the owl itself:
Grown up in northern Germany, each owl is shaped entirely by hand with saw, carving tools and hammer by artist Marthe Zoe Böhm of Kunst vom Kutter in Eckernförde. 🪵🦉

In our interview, the artist talks about her creative process, the craftsmanship involved in making each trophy, and the story behind the locally sourced oak used to bring these distinctive awards to life.
