Bikini Drive-In returns October 31 with the new restoration of “metaphysical splatter film” Begotten.

Begotten has no characters in the ordinary sense. Its final credits name three
principal figures: God Killing Himself. Mother Earth. Son of Earth — Flesh on Bone

The entire film is what those names do to each other and to the earth.
God Killing Himself tears open his body and dies. Mother Earth rises from what
remains and takes his seed into herself. She gives birth to Son of Earth — Flesh on
Bone. He is cast into a barren world, seized by the Nomads, tortured, killed, and
briefly returned to life by his mother. The Nomads destroy her too. The Robed Figures gather what remains of mother and son, grind their bodies down, and return them to the soil. The ground flowers.

“An extraordinarily original accomplishment … One of the ten most important films of modern times.” – Susan Sontag

Content warning: This film contains scenes of blood, gore, violence, and sexual violence. Viewer discretion is strongly advised!

Hello ghosts and ghouls – are you “freddy” for a spooky Saturday morning? We are fiendishly thrilled to present an all-Halloween themed selection of cartoon fun for the trick or treating season! Well – welcome to the Saturday Morning All-You-Can-Eat Cereal Cartoon Party – that special time when kids and kids-at-heart get to relive the exciting Saturday Morning ritual of non-stop retro cartoons, and binge on the multi-colored sugary cereals that used to be a part of every “balanced” breakfast! The cartoon lineup is always a mystery, but expect to see monsters, sci-fi, sleuths, superheroes and all kinds of 2D silliness, both faves and obscurities spanning the ‘40s through the ‘90s, all punctuated with vintage commercials, PSAs and station IDs for a 3-hour trip down memory lane! The Devils opens October 30. Join us on November 3 at 7pm for an introduction from filmmaker Caroline Golum.

An irreverent biopic vividly realized through fantastic psychedelia and handmade sets with an ever-topical feminist approach, Revelations of Divine Love is inspired by and adapted from the memoir of 14th-century mystic and philosopher Julian of Norwich and an account of religious ecstasy, plague, and revolt considered to be the first book to be authored by a woman in English.

The film envisions the life of Julian in the lead up to her anchorage—through her illness and the onset of her godly visions—and follows her through the years as she indulges in her desire to write and becomes a revered and holy figure to those in her town and beyond the city walls.

Revelations of Divine Love opens October 29. Join us on November 4 at 7pm & 9pm for post-screening discussions with filmmaker Caroline Golum. Presented in partnership with Winnipeg Underground Film Festival.

A decade after his death, genre-defying filmmaker William Greaves has one last trick up his sleeve with what he considered the most important event he captured on film: a 1972 party he engineered with the living luminaries of the Harlem Renaissance.

Once Upon a Time in Harlem opens October 23.

A decade after his death, genre-defying filmmaker William Greaves has one last trick up his sleeve with what he considered the most important event he captured on film: a 1972 party he engineered with the living luminaries of the Harlem Renaissance. For four hours, this extraordinary group – many of whom had not seen each other in fifty years – reminisced, critiqued, argued, laughed and drank while wrestling with their place in a rapidly shifting cultural landscape.

Once Upon a Time in Harlem opens October 23.
