Our theatre is almost 100 years old so we hold our breath every time we have to open a wall, never knowing what we could find. Being known as one of Western Canada's most haunted locations makes these projects a little more unnerving. What our construction crew just uncovered during our accessibility renovations feels like something straight out of a mystery film.
While opening up a wall in the ladies' washroom to build our new cleaning closet we found a fully finished hidden room, complete with power, that had been sealed off. It's not often that the walls of an old building hold a surprise that saves you time!
This room has its own industrial conduit and toggle switch inside the room and when we put in a new bulb in the socket and flipped the switch the light turned on!
The surface-mounted metallic conduit pipe and heavy-duty metal switch box look to be classic mid-century electrical additions from the 1950s and 60s
Some of our followers are former employees of the theatre so we're curious if you remember this room and know why it was closed off!
