Screening this week…. 𝙈𝙞𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙧

Andrei Tarkovsky’s mirror is a beautiful blend of memories, dreams and poetry; all used to create a semi-autobiographical film of the acclaimed director.

Told in a non-linear fashion, the movie follows a man as he reflects on his childhood and his relationship with his mother, showing us fragments of his past and also present, while alternating between visual styles.

To fall in love with every woman who shows you the least bit of attention… This Tuesday, we’re continuing our Forget Me Not slate with Michel Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004).

Starring legendary actors Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, alongside the equally legendary Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, and Mark Ruffalo!

After a long overdue breakup, Clementine (Kate Winslet) undergoes a procedure to erase memories of her former boyfriend, Joel (Jim Carrey), from her mind. When Joel discovers that Clem is going to extremes to forget their relationship, he undergoes the same procedure and slowly begins to forget the woman that he dearly loved.

How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! / The world forgetting, by the world forgot / Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! / Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd.

As always, we will be waiting for you in The Lecture Hall at (751 George St.) on April 14th at 7:00pm. All TFS screenings are FREE & OPEN to all, to both the general public and the student body!

In this world, there is an invisible magic circle. There’s an inside and an outside. Some people are inside. We’d like you to step outside.

This April, the Trent Film Society presents a slate for those who cherish their memories deeply, those who know they will live on as long as someone remembers their essence. While this slate regards memory, and it is important not to forget those who came before us; the first Studio Ghibli film without the big three (Miyazaki, Takahata, and Suzuki) is not surprising given that the students have such incredible masters. The “new” generation of directors who went on to found Studio Ponoc do not disappoint. Though the seasoning is different, the taste is just about the same.

Young, socially avoidant Anna visits her eccentric aunt and uncle Oiwa in the countryside of Hokkaido for the summer. While exploring, she stumbles upon an old marsh house, and a mysterious girl who is most strangely familiar. Struggling to find her place, Anna finally feels at home with Marnie. But the summer can’t go on forever. “When Marnie Was There” is an ode to nostalgic summers in that space between childhood and adulthood, this film is the feeling of a cool breeze on a humid day.

As always, we will be waiting for you at (751 Gerorge St.) on April 7th at 7:00pm.
All TFS screenings are FREE & OPEN to ALL!

Road trip? Yes
Art project? Also yes

Filmmaker Agnès Varda teams up with photographer JR to meet strangers across France and capture their experiences through public art. This playful collaboration is a very moving depiction of how the mundane can be beautiful and how ordinary people, when truly seen, can become nothing less than art.

Two words: Photography. Le****ns.

Whether you have a movie problem and a film issue or a movie issue and a film problem, Trent Film Society invites you to join us in Sadleir House’s Lecture Hall for another instalment of our Snap! slate this Tuesday featuring High Art (1998). You thought our obsession with situationships would end after February’s slate, but no... Prepare to be devastated by destructive relationships yet again!

Syd (Radha Mitchell) is an assistant editor for a photography magazine and making her way up in the 1990s New York City art scene, but her career and goals change trajectory when she meets her upstairs neighbour Lucy (Ally Sheedy), a retired photographer stuck in creative limbo. High Art is a time capsule of aesthetic culture that feels almost documentary, complimented by its eerie, minimalist soundtrack that highlights the sort of stagnation and rekindling of passion that every creative will experience.

We would love to see you at (751 George St. N) on March 17th at 7:00pm!
All TFS screenings are FREE & OPEN TO ALL!

To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life. This TUESDAY, we start our Snap! slate with Ben Stiller's 2013 The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Unhappy with the dull, lonely direction his life has taken, socially-awkward Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) has a chance to change that when he's tasked with finding a missing photo that could save his company from being downsized. In a wild and unexpected turn of events, Walter's adventure takes him to all corners of the world as he attempts to track down the mysterious, elusive photographer who took the photo.

You'll find us down in the Lecture Hall at Sadleir House, where we'll start our preshow at 7 PM with the film following shortly after, alongside free snacks, cozy beanbags, and comfortable cinema seating.

If you thought your situationship was complicated, Renata and Ulises have one upped you!

Amar te Duele is basically a latin 2000s time capsule: low-rise jeans, indie rock, burned CDs. It follows the shakespearean story of two lovebirds in Mexico City that battle, not family feuds like the classic Romeo & Juliet, but something arguably more brutal: class division.

With a fantastic soundtrack that put many core latin bands in the spotlight and its characteristic nostalgic vibe, Amar te Duele is easily a favorite in latin american cinema!

[Meme translation: it’s my sleepover and I get to choose the damn movie!]

Unable to perceive the shape of You, I find You all around me.

This TUESDAY, we dive deeper into Valentines in Hell with Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water.

In the midst of the Cold War, a mute, lonesome janitor called Elisa works within the depths of a high-security Baltimore laboratory. As the tension builds at work, she and her coworker, Zelda, discover a classified experiment on a mysterious amphibious being. Learning that her government has been torturing this strange, sexy, fish man creature, an enamoured Elisa is faced with a life altering choice.
