🌊 THREE ATTEMPTS. ONE DETERMINED DAREDEVIL.

For most people, surviving a trip over Niagara Falls would be enough. But not for Canadian daredevil John “Dave” Munday.

🛢️ 1985 – The First Plunge

On October 5, Munday successfully went over the Horseshoe Falls inside a specially designed 750-pound barrel equipped with oxygen, a video camera, and a two-way radio.

🌊 1990 - The 2nd Attempt

Munday returned to the Horseshoe Falls, but this time his barrel became stranded at the brink. After two hours, he was rescued. He later claimed the failed attempt may have saved his life after part of the barrel's protective foam broke away.

⚠️ 1993 – One Last Attempt

Was a successful one! On September 26th Munday survived another trip over Niagara in a 660 lb converted diving bell formerly owned by the Canadian Coast Guard

Three attempts. Two successful stunts. One unforgettable place in Niagara's daredevil history.

One last kick at summer… and one very wild piece of Niagara history! 🌊

The Labour Day long weekend is here, and if you’ve been thinking about one more summer adventure, there’s no better time to see the Falls.

And while you’re here, remember that Niagara has always attracted people looking for adventure… sometimes the really dangerous kind! 😳

On September 5, 1927, Australian daredevil Vincent Taylor parachuted from the Upper Steel Arch Bridge over Niagara Falls.

Yes, you read that right. He jumped from a bridge… with a parachute… over Niagara Falls. 🤯

So come see the Falls, enjoy the long weekend, and discover some of the incredible stories that have made Niagara famous for generations.

🌊 If the Niagara River could talk, imagine the stories it could tell...

It has watched Indigenous peoples travel its waters, explorers arrive in search of new worlds, daredevils test their luck, millions of visitors stand in awe, and generations of families make memories along its shores.

So here’s a question for you:

If you could go back and witness one moment in Niagara’s history, what would it be?

Would you choose the days of the early explorers? See the first tourists arriving at the Falls? Witness one of the famous daredevil stunts? Or experience Niagara as it was long before the hotels, attractions and bright lights?

We recently told you about Blondin, the legendary tightrope walker who crossed Niagara Gorge and became one of the most famous daredevils in history.

After Blondin there was Ontario native William Leonard Hunt, “The Great Farini”. He was inspired by Blondin's earlier walks and decided to follow in his footsteps—quite literally—by performing high above the Niagara Gorge.

But Farini didn’t just walk the tightrope. He was known for making his performances even more unbelievable. Blindfolded with baskets on his feet, with a man on his back, doing summersaults on the rope and evening doing laundry with a washing machine on his back!

Niagara has always attracted people willing to do the impossible. And The Great Farini was certainly one of them.
