« NOTES sur la tombe de Karl Marx »: Deux petits cahiers de notes de poche, très utiles pour les marxistes soucieux de l’être subtilement – ou subrepticement. Ces cahiers constituent une réponse au « Discours sur la tombe de Karl Marx » prononcé par Friedrich Engels en anglais à Highgate le 17 mars 1883 et publié pour la première fois en allemand dans le Sozialdemokrat n° 33 du 22 mars 1883.

(English version follows). Une minute. Se tient. Un spectacle très actuel de l’écriture. Une vidéo ou non plutôt : un rythme. Récit d’un petit qui deviendra grand. Artiste avec lunettes d’artiste. Un auteur, un « storyteller » qui s’est fait avec Fort Greene, Cobble Hill et une Brooklyn énergique, joyeuse, historique, archivée. Micro-scénario, cercle fermé. Des encouragements sévères d’une mère à l’inévitable coupure (« to black »). Séries de gros plans sur crayons, papier, manuscrits aux allures basquiatesques. Du papier au cinéma : les écrits comme les plans sont maniés par un maître, un parfait « self-made-man », un escaladeur. MontBlanc International. De l’Europe à l’inachevable nouveau monde. « God Bless America » tel quel mis en scène par la compagnie allemande. Les Amériques, n’est-ce pas là ou la plume fontaine a été inventée, justement? Quadrature du cercle.

A storyteller who’s made of Fort Greene, Cobble Hill and an energetic, joyful, historical, archived version of Brooklyn. Minimalist script. A closed circle. From the severe encouragements of a mother to the inevitable cut (“to black”). A series of close-ups on pens, paper, basquiat-written-style manuscripts. From paper to cinema, writing and shots presented as the work of a master, a very “self-made-man”, a climber. Montblanc International. From Europe to the ever-New World. God Bless America as embraced by a German company. America, ain’t it where the fountain pen was invented anyway? Circle completed.

The very fashionable “Cahier papillon” came out after months of work and Covid-related wanderings. We are here speaking of a 8 x 5 inches size notebook, signed by both Scribe and Silk Laundry, produced in the St-Lawrence Valley (Canada), elaborated as an ode to the Monarch butterfly and therefore evoking its protagonist in multiple material ways: the best quality silky feeling paper (Natural cougar 70 lbs, 128 pages), Kraft Cardboard (Neenah), a touch of “Peacock” Japanese 33 % made of mulberry paper (Mulberry being a tree that monarchs love to eat and from which silkworms nourish themselves), an orange and white coloured sewn visible spine (to evoke the Monarch’s color) and a gold hot stamp of Silk Laundry’s logo on both cover and back (Monarchs being regal).

On each page, a new butterfly drawn by was added, representing both the revitalisation of the Monarch’s species made possible during the last couple of years, thanks to the efforts of multiple institutions, citizens and organisation to fight against its extinction (such as , ). Knowing these efforts still requires to keep growing for Monarchs as they should for other disappearing insects and living being, this notebook is a humble way to show our support in the cause and to contribute to the collaborative effort to renew the species’ environment. This can be achieved through the planting of milkweed, sharing of knowledge and act of care.
