The NFB is saying that they are "re-organising" ACIC/FAP, the Aide au cinéma indépendant/Filmmaker's assistance program... and that is not good news, given the recent string of decisions we've seen from them.
This program, although not cash like a grant, has been absolutely central to filmmakers here for years: they gave almost-free editing, studio time, colour correcting and fabulously professional sound mixes to indepentents who would never have been able to afford them otherwise, making our grants actually be enough to complete a film at professional standards. This has been direct help for hundreds of us, and was cost-efficient because it mostly used down-time between the NFB's own productions.
It would be insane to shut this program, and heartbreaking to see it go. Ce serait débile de couper ce programme, avec la contribution et l'importance qu'elle a pour la communauté, mais on a vu plusieurs décisions débiles de l'administration dans ces dernières années...
To make matters worse, they are forcing many dedicated lovely people, like Marie-Christine Guité, who runs this program, into retirement. So many of us owe her and this program so much. C'est ingrat.
This coming monday the 3rd, there's a meeting at the ARRQ, 5154 rue St-Hubert, at 7pm. Show up if you can. If you can't, write to [email protected] with the subject line LIEN VIRTUEL for a Zoom link.
Merci à la coalition Sauvons l'ACIC, qui organise cet évènement!
