Monarch Spotlight: Al 🛠
When we uncover a new challenge during the restoration, Al is usually one of our first calls. A true jack of all trades, there isn't much he can't tackle. If something needs repairing, modifying, or figuring out, chances are he'll have an idea or point us in the right direction. And if we're missing a part or piece, there's a good chance Al already knows where to find it.. or how to make it.
Whenever we're working through a problem, Al is someone we bounce ideas off. His insight is always valued, and his years of experience, practical skills, and creative thinking have helped us solve countless challenges throughout the Monarch's restoration. He doesn't solve every problem himself, but he has a remarkable ability to help the team find the right solution.
Al's wealth of knowledge comes from a remarkable career. He served as a mechanic in the Canadian Armed Forces, including working with the Snowbirds, before continuing his career at Redcliff Pressed Brick and later Medicine Hat Brick and Tile (IXL). Today, he also volunteers at Medalta, helping preserve another important piece of our region's history.
Historic restoration is full of unexpected challenges, but Al approaches every one with ingenuity, patience, and a determination to get the job done right. Whether he's fabricating a missing component, repairing something others might replace, or finding a practical solution to a complex problem, his ability to think outside the box has made him an invaluable member of our volunteer team.
If you attend one of our events, you'll probably spot Al quietly working behind the scenes. He's there just in case something isn't working quite right, ready to lend a hand and help keep everything running smoothly.
The Monarch is being restored because of dedicated volunteers like Al, whose experience, generosity, and quiet determination help preserve this historic theatre for future generations.
