Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation Bringing Sacred Cultural Belongings Home!

Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation is taking an important step toward reclaiming its history as Chief and Council and Elders travel to Chicago, Illinois, to bring home sacred cultural belongings from the Field Museum of Natural History.

Following successful discussions, the Nation has received permission to retrieve these items, which include traditional games, clothing, and beaded moccasins dating back to 1901 and 1903. This historic journey is about honouring our ancestors, reconnecting with our cultural identity, and preserving our heritage for future generations.

The belongings will be temporarily safeguarded at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum in Regina, SK, before a permanent home is prepared at the Nation’s new Administration and Governance Building. Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Shane Keepness and Julian Stonechild for their work in helping bring these treasured belongings home.
