🎃 METRO CINEMA PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST! 🎃

Metro Cinema is hosting a Pumpkin Carving Contest this October so get your carving knives ready!

Carve your best movie/Metro Cinema/Garneau Theatre themed pumpkin for a chance to win a prize. All ages are invited to participate!

Bring your pumpkins into the theatre between October 26th - October 28th. We’ll have you fill out a form with your contact information and the context of your pumpkin.

Our staff will vote on their favourite and the winner will be contacted on October 30th.

Please note that we will display your pumpkin in our lobby until it rots. At that point we will have to dispose of it but we will take a professional photo of it prior to! All pumpkins will be disposed of on November 1st.

Rules and requirements:

#1: Your pumpkin carving must be related to a movie, The Garneau Theatre, or Metro Cinema.
#2: You must bring your pumpkin in for judging between October 26th - October 28th.
#3: When you bring in your pumpkin you will be asked to fill out a form with contact information and information regarding your pumpkin. Without this form we will not be able to consider your submission.

GHOSTBUSTERS II

After saving New York City from a ghost attack, the Ghostbusters – a team of spirit exterminators - is disbanded for demolishing parts of the city during the battle. But when Ghostbuster Peter Venkman learns that spirits have taken an interest in his son, the men launch a rogue ghost-chasing mission. The quest quickly goes awry, landing them in court. But when the ghosts turn on the judge, he issues an order allowing the Ghostbusters to get back to work.

This screening will be attended by Alberta Ghostbusters, who will have a table in the lobby!⁠

Screening as a part of Reel Family Cinema.

Free admission for kids 12 & under. Supervision is required.

Meet one of the many folks on our Board of Directors volunteering their time to Metro Cinema, Kenyon "KD" Burton!⁠

"I moved to Edmonton from New Orleans in 2021 after accepting a position in the History Department at the University of Alberta. This was a massive change for me, and with people still largely staying home due to the pandemic, Metro became an important place for me to go out and experience the city. Metro remains one of my favorite places, and while I miss being in New Orleans, going to the Garneau Theatre has helped Edmonton feel more like home. Over the past five years, I have been having a blast teaching at the U of A, along with seeing some of my favorite old classics, musicals, or just any movie that looks like a good time with the amazing crowds that Metro always brings together. "⁠

Role: Board and Committee Member.
Length at Metro: I first became involved with Metro by helping out the Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast (shoutout to the Lowdown Cheap Little Punks!). From there, I was invited to join the Fundraising Committee in 2024, and I joined the Board in 2025. At that time, I volunteered to help co-chair the new Diversity Committee, and in general I aim to help out wherever I can.
Favourite Movie: The Big Lebowski (or Sinners, or Sunset Boulevard... it's ever-changing)

Everyone is invited to THE CABIN IN THE WOODS!

With a post-screening discussion by the Philosophy in Film podcast.

When five college friends arrive at a remote forest cabin for a little vacation, little do they expect the horrors that await them. One by one, the youths fall victim to backwoods zombies, but there is another factor at play. Two scientists are manipulating the ghoulish goings-on, but even as the body count rises, there is yet more at work than meets the eye.
