Last week, our team swapped spreadsheets for stage presence at our annual Professional Development Day at Flinders Lane in Townsville - and the talent (and questionable dance moves!) certainly didn’t disappoint.

With “Battle of the Bands” as the theme, our crew channelled their inner rock gods, pop princesses and chart-topping superstars, bringing plenty of energy, creativity and friendly competition to a day focused on professional growth.

Leading the charge were Sherren and Dean from Melius Solutions, who got the team thinking about what makes PVW tick; exploring our values, purpose and how we can continue to grow together.

And when it came time to crown the winners, there could only be one act taking home the glory…

HOT POTATOES!
Our very own Wiggles-inspired supergroup brought the house down and took out the Battle of the Bands title. Who knew hot potatoes could rock this hard?

With amazing food catered by A Touch of Salt keeping everyone fuelled, we wrapped up the day with celebratory drinks downstairs at the Underground Flinders Lane.

A packed day of learning, collaboration, laughs and a little bit of rock ‘n’ roll.

Laura Carcary | Senior Specialist Advisor - Business Advisory, Townsville
With 20 years of accounting experience, Laura brings a wealth of knowledge to our Business Advisory team. She began her career at PwC before spending nine years working in Perth’s oil and gas sector. Now back in North Queensland to be closer to family, Laura is passionate about helping clients understand their numbers, identify opportunities and find ways to save.

Lauren Watt | Graduate - Tax & Accounting, Townsville
A JCU Bachelor of Commerce graduate, majoring in Accounting, Lauren is building her accounting career with PVW Partners after having completed her JCU Internship with us. She enjoys the variety that comes with working across different clients, with every job bringing new challenges, learning opportunities and plenty of chances to grow.

Jessica Meyer | Team Assistant - Darwin
Jess is part of our growing Darwin team while studying a Bachelor of Business. She is gaining valuable hands-on experience, supporting both our team and clients, and enjoys working with a diverse range of people to help solve all kinds of challenges.

The Cairns economy continues to show resilience, but confidence is becoming an increasingly important issue.

In recent months we have observed business owners and investors adopting a more cautious approach to investment decisions. While strong population growth and housing demand support the region's long-term outlook, uncertainty can quickly suppress investment activity. Local brokers are reporting a noticeable reduction in property investor enquiries despite otherwise favourable market conditions.

Businesses are generally still willing to invest when they can forecast the future with some certainty.

Townsville businesses are hitting pause on growth plans as uncertainty surrounding the Federal Budget dents confidence, according to our latest Business Confidence Survey.

The survey found confidence has fallen across businesses of all sizes, with uncertainty around proposed tax reforms prompting many to delay investment and spending decisions.

While businesses remain resilient, the results reflect uncertainty rather than pessimism, with many adopting a cautious "wait-and-see" approach until there is greater clarity on the Government's policy direction.
