Knee Deep Squares

Knee Deep Squares Knee-Deep Squares is a square dancing club that dances Mainstream on Fridays and Plus on Monday. Let your friends know, and join the fun.

In 2019 we are holding our Square Dance introduction classes on Fridays May 17th, 24th and 30th at Jannali. Welcome to Knee-Deep Squares! We hope you enjoy our page. Square dancing is alive! Some people think of square dancing as a hillbilly craze of the 1950's, but nothing could be further from the truth. Gone are the hay bails, calico petticoats, checked shirts, cowboy hats and overalls

. The dress style is still "western", but the ladies now wear comfortable circular skirts or dresses with soft petticoats, and the men wear smart western shirts and trousers. Square dancing has changed with the times and is now a modern social activity set to great music (not just country & western, but also a contemporary modern sound). You will hear great songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and today - movie themes, stage musicals, Beatles, Elton John and Elvis are all part of the musical repertoire of square dancing. Square dancing is also good physical and mental exercise and is endorsed by the National Heart Foundation. If you want to find out where to try square dancing in your area, you can usually find information on the national Square Dance Australia web site. You can also call to ask about where to learn square dancing in Australia, toll free on 1800 643 277

The wonderful activity of square dancing is truly a global phenomenon. You can square dance in many countries that you visit. The great thing is that you don't even have to speak the language of that country, as square dances are called in a universal language wherever you go. It doesn't matter where you learn to square dance, you will have friends all around the world. There are many interesting web sites about square dancing that you can visit on the net. The latest release from Knee Deep Melodies is “KDM 206 – Up Where We Belong,” based on the hit song recorded by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes for the 1982 film “An Officer and a Gentleman.” Released in July of that year, it reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, and topped the charts in several other countries. It was recognized by the Recording Industry Association of America as one of the Songs of the Century.

Our version is a true tribute to the style that Cocker and Warnes brought to the original, with Hayley Froggatt providing superb backing vocals for her father Chris Froggatt’s Mainstream calls. As well as the instrumental, our release includes an option with Hayley’s backing vocals, for callers to duet with if they wish.

Here is the latest release from Knee Deep Melodies:

The Steve Miller Band released “Rock’n Me” in 1976. It was the second single from the band's ninth studio album Fly Like an Eagle, and it became the band's second #1 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100. Featuring the familiar distinctive guitar riff, our version “KDM 205 - Keep On Rockin' Me” captures the driving sound of the original. Square dancers will love to kick up their heels in the Grand Square. Mainstream vocals are provided by Chris Froggatt.

Hi everyone, Here is the latest release from Knee Deep Melodies.

Hank Locklin wrote and recorded “Send Me the Pillow You Dream On” in 1947. It became a country standard that has been covered by artists such as Johnny Tillotson, Connie Francis, Daniel O’Donnell, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, the Everly Brothers and many, many more. Our version “KDM 204 - Send Me the Pillow That You Dream On” captures that great country feeling and is ideal for square dancing. Jeff Garbutt of Western Australia provides a fine Mainstream vocal track.

The Traveling Wilburys was a supergroup that brought together the amazing talents of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty, if only for a short time. Their debut album Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 contained many hits, including "End of the Line" which was released as a single in January 1989. This catchy melody translates well to our square-dance format, and Knee Deep Melodies is pleased to present “KDM 203 – End Of The Line Patter,” a hoedown track that stays faithful to the original, is easy to call to, and the dancers recognise and love. A Mainstream vocal track called live by Chris Froggatt is provided, featuring Spin the Top. To preview, please click on the link below:
