Swanpool Community Cinema Provides an important cultural and social service to patrons through the screenings.

An incorporated community owned and operated cinema providing classic, foreign and art house movies from silents to recent releases and a superior cinema experience in 1950s style. Also gives important volunteering opportunities - to learn new skills, meet new people and contribute to their own and other's enjoyment. Volunteers can choose from Candy Bar, Front of House, Programming, Publicity and

Projection tasks and/or joining the Board of Gvoernance. 2 Candy Bar, 2 Front of House and 2 Projection volunteers operate each screening via a roster following training. Other tasks for volunteers to choose from include developing and publishing the 2 monthly program, writing press releases, maintaining Facebook site and various advertising activities, coordinating volunteers & stock control.

🎥🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The Edinburgh International Film Festival brings the world's finest independent cinema to Scotland this week, including a 30th anniversary screening of Trainspotting.

Panel 149 at The Tapestry is dedicated to Scotland at the Movies, depicting some of the earliest days of Scottish cinema to iconic Scottish actors and the global films that have shaped how the world sees this country.

🪡 Outlander actor Grant O'Rourke, who stars in this year's EIFF opening film The Incomer, is a Galashiels local who featured in our Iconic Scotland exhibit to celebrate our visitor centre's opening – and his Outlander co-star Sam Heughan has long championed The Great Tapestry of Scotland, too (thanks Sam).

A look at the films Sam Neill was involved with over a more than 50-year period showed he was an actor of the highest calibre, and while most of the world will know and remember him as Dr Alan Grant in Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster for the ages, 'Jurassic Park', there are several hidden treasures on Neill’s CV to be enjoyed. 🙌🎥
