The wait is finally over! The 2026 Blue Heeler Film Festival Awards Night is here, and we can't wait to celebrate an incredible year of filmmaking, creativity and storytelling! 🎥

Tonight, we'll roll out the blue carpet at Two Rivers Wines, Denman, as we celebrate our talented finalists, showcase their films and announce this year's award winners!

We are so excited to officially announce the 2026 Blue Heeler Film Festival Finalists!

Congratulations to our talented filmmakers across the Secondary School Junior, Secondary School Senior and Open Categories who have made it through to this year’s finals.

A huge thank you to everyone who entered this year’s Festival, and a special thank you to our judges Ryan Johnson, Annette Hubber and Anton Beebe for their time and expertise in judging this year’s incredible entries.

Introducing 2026 Blue Heeler Film Festival Judge Anton Beebe! 🎬

Anton Beebe is an accomplished director and Film & Television Lecturer at JMC Academy, with extensive industry experience across television, commercials and short film.
His directing credits include campaigns for major Australian and international brands, along with the international science-fiction television series Charlie Jade, which screened across the USA, UK, Canada, Europe and Asia.

Anton’s work has received industry recognition both nationally and internationally, including nominations at film festivals in Montreal, Palm Springs, Mill Valley and Clermont-Ferrand. His experience across directing, production and education has given him a strong understanding of the craft of filmmaking and what it takes to bring a story from concept to screen.

Alongside his professional work, Anton is passionate about supporting and developing the next generation of filmmakers. Through his role at JMC Academy, he shares his industry knowledge and experience with emerging screen creatives, helping them build their skills, strengthen their storytelling and develop their own creative voices.

We’re incredibly excited to welcome Anton to the 2026 Blue Heeler Film Festival judging panel. His directing experience, industry knowledge and passion for developing emerging filmmakers will bring a valuable perspective as we celebrate the creativity and talent behind our 2026 entries! 🎥

Introducing 2026 Blue Heeler Film Festival Judge Annette Hubber! 🎬

Annette Hubber is an award-winning producer, production executive and events specialist with more than 35 years' experience across film, television and live events. A former Television Producer and long-time Manager of Screen Hunter, she has worked with hundreds of productions, championing Australian storytelling and supporting filmmakers at every stage of their careers. Annette founded the Real Film Festival in 2011 and has served as a film judge across a range of festivals and industry initiatives. She brings a wealth of industry knowledge, a keen eye for storytelling, and a passion for recognising emerging talent and excellence in screen production.

Annette is deeply passionate about supporting emerging talent and giving a voice to marginalised young people. She believes in creating pathways for people to develop their skills, share their stories and, most importantly, know that someone believes in them. Whether she is helping a filmmaker bring their vision to life, connecting communities through an event, or creating a platform for new voices to be heard, Annette brings warmth, creativity and belief in the people behind every story.

We’re incredibly excited to welcome Annette to the 2026 Blue Heeler Film Festival judging panel. Her passion for championing emerging filmmakers and creating opportunities for new voices aligns perfectly with what the Blue Heeler Film Festival is all about. Introducing 2026 Blue Heeler Film Festival Judge Ryan Johnson! 🎬

Ryan graduated from QUT with a BA in Acting in 1999, but landed a lead role in his first feature film, City Loop, while still in his second year of study. He went on to tour nationally with Sydney Theatre Company in The Beauty Queen of Leenane, before securing a lead role in ABC’s Headstart. Building on his growing profile, the features Thunderstruck and The Wannabes, along with a regular role in the series The Secret Life of Us, placed Ryan firmly on the Australian film and television map. Ryan has also performed on stage with Belvoir St Theatre and Sydney Theatre Company, and at Edinburgh’s prestigious Pleasance Dome.

His first international role was in the BBC1 Australian/U.K. co-production Dossa and Joe. In 2011, he joined USA Network’s Fairly Legal as series regular Ben Grogan opposite Sarah Shahi. Australian audiences know him from Carlotta, House Husbands, Love Child, INXS: Never Tear Us Apart and his five-season run as Matt Knight in Doctor Doctor, earning him a Silver Logie nomination in 2017.

More recently, Ryan appeared in Dear Life, Bump, How to Please a Woman and The Claremont Murders, which was nominated for Best Miniseries at the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards.

We’re thrilled to welcome Ryan to the 2026 Blue Heeler Film Festival judging panel. Ryan brings an incredible depth of industry knowledge and storytelling experience to this year’s festival and we can’t wait to have him help uncover the TREASURE among our 2026 entries! 🎥✨
