We recently received a comment asking why a business would ask for volunteers, so we thought we’d explain a little more about what goes on behind the scenes at ‘The Kooka’.

Since November 2025, Kookaburra Outdoor Cinema has been community-owned and operated as a not-for-profit organisation through Kookaburra Collaborative Inc.

Behind ‘The Kooka’ is a dedicated committee who work incredibly hard to keep the cinema running, supported by a growing group of community volunteers who generously give their time and skills.

It has been incredibly heartwarming to see our community come together to support the cinema. Whether you’re helping behind the scenes, lending a hand on movie night, or simply buying a ticket and enjoying a film under the stars, every bit of support helps keep the Kookaburra going and allows us to continue creating a space for the community to come together.

We hope this helps clear things up a little and gives you a better insight into what makes ‘The Kooka’ so special. We’re incredibly grateful for the community that continues to show up for us, in big ways and small, and we can’t wait to welcome you all back under the stars for another season, with plenty of exciting things planned! 🎬🎞️

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

The countdown to opening night is ON!
Before we welcome everyone back to ‘The Kooka’ , we’ve got a bit of spruce-up to do, and we’d love a few extra pairs of hands!

We’ll be tackling:
🌱 Gardens – weeding & mulching
🪑 Seat frames – wire-brushing & painting rust
🪵 Timber – sanding rough timber ends

Please bring:
• W**d trowel & wheelbarrow if you have one.
• Wire brush if you have one.
• Gloves.

☕ Morning tea provided! Because apparently bribery is the best way to get people to pull weeds! Plus good music, good company and a few laughs while we get stuck in.

If you’d like to give us a heads-up, you can RSVP by commenting below or sending us a message, otherwise just show up on the day!

All welcome! No gardening, sanding or wire brush and painting expertise required, just a willingness to help! 💚

🎬 Our final two movies of the season are here before we close for winter!

Come help us celebrate our very first season as a not-for-profit, community-run cinema, we couldn’t have done it without your support. ❤️

Don’t worry, we’ve got some fun things planned over the colder months, but for now let’s finish the season with two great nights at the movies! 🍿✨
