Cinema Watch Launceston

Cinema Watch Launceston Promoting people-powered cinema in Launceston, Tas. A list of upcoming cult-film and alt-film sess The priorities are:

1.

We're about sharing cult-movie and alt-movie news for Launceston, Tasmania. Helping people find the audience for the crowd-funded "cinema on demand" screenings organised through Fan Force or Demand Film. They're a great way to get what you want on the big screen.

2. Keeping track of any niche film festivals or screenings coming to Launceston.

3. Sharing info about whatever one-off or limited run screenings Village and Sundown and Star (when it opens) are offering. Obviously people are going to have to tell us about these things though! :)

Launceston actor Michael Ballard has turned his hair loss into Balding, a feature film starring more than 400 Tasmanians.

The cast includes former premier Peter Gutwein, politician Michael Ferguson, Launceston mayor Matthew Garwood, former ABC newsreader Peter Gee, actor John X, Lisa Gormley from Home and Away, Australian Idol winner Damien Leith and Beaconsfield mine survivor Brant Webb.

Ballard wrote, directed, produced and stars in the comedy-drama, which he made with his wife Emma over seven years.

Ballard said he started the project after he was diagnosed with skin conditions including psoriasis and began losing his hair, because there was "too much stigma around it".

Balding will premiere at a private event at Launceston's Star Theatre on October 29 and several companies have approached Ballard about streaming it, though no release date is set.
