In 2018, during the Phillip Island Festival of Stories, Mike Smith of the Sun Theatre Yarraville came to Cowes to present the documentary film about his remarkable solo round-the-world flight, ‘Voyage of the Southern Sun’, and to talk about his book of the same name. Bernard Caleo, who once worked for Mike as a projectionist in the days when projectors still used film, and who has a home on Phillip Island, said, “Hey Mike, great film. You know what? It’d be great if Cowes had a cinema.” Mike replied, “Funny that, I’ve just been driving around today with Greg Price, scouting locations.” Given that Greg Price is a third-generation islander and local real estate agent, the plan had a solid base in the Cowes community.
