This June, The Revival House at the Como Theatre will partner with RAC for a special cinema takeover celebrating 100 years of Roadside Assistance in Western Australia.

Director John Woo brings his signature Hong Kong action style to Hollywood with spectacular results. The 1997 film showcases Woo's trademark elements - slow-motion gun battles, doves, Mexican standoffs - while adding emotional weight through the identity-swap premise. Travolta and Cage deliver tour-de-force performances, each mimicking the other's mannerisms as their characters inhabit switched bodies. The film's action sequences are operatic in scale, from the opening airport shootout to the boat chase finale, all choreographed with Woo's balletic violence. It's high-concept action executed with style and genuine emotional investment; To foil a terrorist plot, an FBI agent assumes the identity of the criminal who murdered his son via facial transplant surgery, but the crook wakes up prematurely and vows revenge.

Original format and audio experience of this film faithfully reproduced by The Revival House. Presented in 35mm film unless noted otherwise.

Enjoy a selection of shots from last night's festivities and 35mm film presentation of The General, in partnership with RAC to celebrate 100 years of providing Roadside Assistance to Western Australians.

RAC's cinema takeover included nostalgic touches of motoring in WA, with a display of heritage vehicles and archival nods to RAC’s roadside assistance history. It paired very well with our presentation of 35mm RAC ads you might have remembered from days of old before the film started.

Then what a treat it was to also celebrate the 100th anniversary of The General by screening it in 35mm film for the enthusiastic audience - an experience not to be forgotten!

Last night was an incredible experience for all, we are thrilled with the reception and couldn't have kicked off our special June 100 Years in Film program in partnership with RAC much better! We hope you were swept up in the historic spirit of motoring in WA and the classic cinema experience throughout the event, there's so much more to come this month at The Revival House.

Director Terry Gilliam brings his distinctive visual imagination to create a modern fairy tale set against Manhattan's gritty reality. The 1991 film seamlessly blends magical realism, while Robin Williams delivers one of his finest dramatic performances, balancing Parry's childlike wonder with glimpses of the broken man beneath. Jeff Bridges makes Jack's journey from selfish cynic to reluctant hero utterly convincing, while Mercedes Ruehl won an Oscar for her tough, loving Anne. Gilliam's film asks whether redemption is possible and answers with unexpected grace; A former radio DJ, suicidally despondent because of a terrible mistake he once made, finds redemption in helping a mentally unstable homeless man who was an innocent victim of that mistake.

Reese Witherspoon makes Elle genuinely smart rather than just lucky, showing how her sorority skills - reading people, staying positive, building coalitions - translate to legal success. The 2001 film balances broad comedy with surprising heart, particularly in Elle's mentorship relationship with manicurist Paulette (Jennifer Coolidge) and her defence of accused murderer Brooke (Ali Larter). The supporting cast shines, including Luke Wilson as the kindhearted teaching assistant Emmett and Holland Taylor as the intimidating Professor Stromwell. The script celebrates feminine culture rather than asking Elle to abandon it, affirming that you can be both feminine and formidable; Fashionable sorority queen Elle Woods follows her ex-boyfriend to law school, where she discovers that there is more to her than just looks.

This June, The Revival House at the Como Theatre will partner with RAC for a special cinema takeover celebrating 100 years of Roadside Assistance in Western Australia.

The opening night of The Revival House's June program on 3 June will feature a screening of The General (1926) a silent film classic presented in original 35mm film. Across the theatre, the space will be transformed with vintage-inspired styling and nostalgic touches, including RAC-branded lolly bags, heritage vehicle displays, and archival nods to RAC’s roadside assistance history woven throughout the venue.

Doors will open at 6:30pm, with pizza available on arrival and the screening commencing at 7:20pm.

Buster Keaton co-directs and stars in this 1926 silent masterpiece that remains one of cinema's greatest action comedies. The film's elaborate train sequences-shot practically with real locomotives-create genuine thrills alongside perfectly timed physical comedy. The General has been recognised as a landmark achievement in visual storytelling, action choreography, and comedic timing and remains astonishing a century later; After being rejected by the Confederate military, not realising it was due to his crucial civilian role, an engineer must single-handedly recapture his beloved locomotive after it is seized by Union spies and return it through enemy lines.

Director Peter Cattaneo transforms what could have been mere titillation into a warm, funny examination of working-class masculinity in crisis. The 1997 film balances broad comedy with genuine pathos, never mocking its characters' struggles. Robert Carlyle makes Gaz's desperation palpable beneath his cocky exterior, while Mark Addy brings vulnerability to Dave's body-image issues. The supporting cast creates fully realised characters dealing with unemployment's psychological toll - Tom Wilkinson's Gerald maintaining appearances while his world crumbles is particularly moving; Six unemployed steel workers form a male st******se act. The women cheer them on to go for "the full monty" - total nudity.
