The World Theatre is one step closer to welcoming audiences back, with remediation works continuing to progress well at the iconic Charters Towers venue.
Painters have been hard at work and scaffolding has now been installed to the portico. This will allow the external faรงade works to commence, which will resolve areas of water ingress in that area.
Council is working towards completion of the project, with preparations also underway for the venue's return to service and the first community bookings.
An official reopening date will be announced once final works have been completed, and operational readiness activities are finalised.
Council has recently committed funds to undertake repainting the external walls of The World Theatre to restore the building's protective coating. These works cover the restaurant space, the original bank building, and the World Theatre. The new paint will provide renewed protection against the elements and help prevent moisture from affecting the building's exterior. As part of these works, scaffolding will be erected on Mosman Street and there may be periods where Rutherford Lane needs to be closed. Council will provide further updates as they become available.
The community is encouraged to stay tuned for further updates as the World Theatre moves closer to reopening its doors.
This project is being completed with assistance provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
