Why am I quoting Top Gun? It's not because it was my favorite movie when I was in high school. It's not because it was the best ever advertising campaign for Naval Aviators !

It is because speed in your lifts is a very effective way to build strength and power.

My body subconsciously knew this before Velocity Based Training became popular 😀

I just love ripping a heavy deadlift off the floor as fast as I can. On high rep days it can be very fast, on low reps and super heavy weights, it might look slow but the effort and intention is still there to lift as hard and as fast as possible.

In Strength Training we purposefully push our body to the point where we struggle and are uncomfortable, because we know that is what forces our body to respond and grow stronger.

When I started seeing really tough emotional and mental experiences the same way as I saw struggling with really heavy weights, that this is how I get stronger emotionally and mentally, it created an instant shift and helped me get excited rather than stresses or worried.

So when things get stressful or uncomfortable, get excited because you are growing and getting stronger in some area of yourself.
