The Mercury

The Mercury Screening the most extraordinary stories from around the world. The only subscription-based cinema in Australia!

The Mercury is a community focussed, not-for-profit cinema and film organisation that connects passion, profession and screen culture. The Mercury is a place to engage and immerse in story and our beloved Mercury Cinema is the home of independent cinema and Adelaide's West End's home of stories on screen. Established in 1974 as the Media Resource Centre, The Mercury is a subscription based cinema

and screen-resource centre. With single tickets and mini multi-passes available to casual cinema-goers, our subscribers have access to unlimited screenings, office space, sound studio, editing equipment, production equipment, production gear and our special events like Script Club and Launch Lab all included in a $25/month or $300/year subscription. Find out more: https://themercury.org.au/about-subscription/

Home to the Quicksilver Production Fund, South Australian Screen Awards and professional education program Launch Lab. Opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1992, our little bricks-and-mortar theatre has, for over 30 years, supported the development of screen culture as its mandate. We curate an eclectic program, showing new releases alongside retrospective works from Australia and around the world, and providing an avenue for local creatives to screen their work. Visit https://themercury.org.au/ to see what’s on. Our cinemas offer premium film projection facilities, surround sound, and plush, tiered seating. In the foyer, you’ll find a Hollywood inspired Lounge Bar and Cafe. In addition to our curated film offerings every week, the 186-seat Mercury and 36-seat Iris, and the foyers, are available for hire. They’re perfect for functions including film screenings, live and mixed media performances, fundraisers, launches, parties, conferences and seminars. Each hire includes a fully qualified projectionist for all screenings, and experienced front-of-house staff. Find out more: https://themercury.org.au/venue-hire/

You’ll find The Mercury Cinema at 13 Morphett St, adjacent to the southern end of the Morphett Street Bridge, in Adelaide’s West End Creative Precinct.

Australianarama Cinematheque!! Program Five features a guest program by the wonderful !

To celebrate the release of her new book, “Australianarama”, please join Frida Las Vegas as she shares some of her favourite Australian films from September 7th to 22nd!

"For the first two weeks in September, is taking over the Adelaide Cinematheque for screenings of Australian cinematic kitsch masterpieces pulled straight from the ‘Screen Dreams’ chapter, with each film introduced by yours truly. Think of the following screenings as ART POPS IRL, projected on the big screen at 24 frames per second with some spirited discourse following each film about what’s fab, what stanks and why they have each earned their place in the pantheon of pop culture (for better or worse):"

🎟 Tickets are available at the door FREE for Mercury subscribers.

COLOURS OF TIME

From director Cédric Klapisch, comes a sweeping story spanning two eras. Set in 1895 and the present day, four distant cousins trace their family back to an ancestor, Adèle Vermillard, who left rural Normandy for Paris at 20 in search of her mother.

Klapisch called it one of his most ambitious films yet, weaving together two timelines and shifting to a feminine perspective for the first time, with Suzanne Lindon leading as Adèle.

The film premiered at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in May 2025.

Screening at The Mercury Tuesday 1st & Friday 11th September.

THE CHRONOLOGY OF WATER hits the Mercury screens next week

Marking the directorial debut of acclaimed indie actor (and TWILIGHT star) Kirsten Stewart, the film is a raw and unconventional coming-of-age story following Lidia, a young woman navigating desire, trauma, addiction and artistic awakening as she searches for a way to survive and find her voice.

“Kristen Stewart makes a wildly bold directorial debut with this fractured, feverish, and visually audacious portrait of trauma, memory, and survival.”
— Luke Buckmaster, FLICKS

Screening at the Mercury on Friday 4 September. Then stay for Script Club immediately after the session for more film conversation. (note....tickets for each are sold separately)
