🔬 A look back at the Experimentation Network

💭 The very first cohort of the Futura Cinema Experimentation Network kicked off its European tour at the Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival. From 2 to 4 October 2025, the selected projects and partner venues embarked on three days of networking and began jointly developing experimentation protocols setting out the objectives, modalities and timetable for future European deployment.

📣 A look back at the first stage of Futura Cinema #4 🎬

💭 The fourth edition of kicked off its European tour at the Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival, with three days of brainstorming, workshops, and exchanges dedicated to developing new tools, formats, and devices for the cinema sector.

🎥 From 1 to 4 October, participants in the Incubation Programme and the Experimentation Network came together to share ideas, collaborate and connect, while also enjoying the variety of events and screenings at the FEFFS!

🎬 7 days to go before the first stage of our Experimentation Network! 🔬

On October 2nd, the very first cohort of the Futura Cinema Experimentation Network will kick off in Strasbourg during the Festival Européen du Film Fantastique de Strasbourg. 🏁

After an online meeting on September 19th, our project leaders together with representatives of cultural venues and organisations will finally gather in person for three days of meetings, exchanges, and networking.

✨ On the agenda: setting up the first cohort of the Experimentation Network, defining a methodology tailored to each project, and meetings with local stakeholders and initiatives.

This first stage marks the launch of a unique experimentation journey, dedicated to fostering innovation in cinema distribution and exhibition.

🎬 J-7 avant la première étape de notre Réseau d’Expérimentation 🚀

Le 2 octobre, la toute première promotion du Réseau d’Expérimentation de Futura Cinema fait sa rentrée à Strasbourg à l’occasion du Festival Européen du Film Fantastique de Strasbourg. 🏁

Après une rencontre en ligne le 19 septembre, nos porteur·euse·s de projets ainsi que des représentant·e·s de structures et de lieux culturels se retrouveront enfin en présentiel pour trois jours de rencontres, d’échanges et de mise en relation.

✨ Au programme : constitution de la première promotion du Réseau d'expérimentation, définition d’une méthodologie adaptée à chaque projet et rencontres avec les acteurs et dispositifs du territoire.

Cette première étape marque le lancement d’un parcours d’expérimentation unique, dédié à l’innovation dans la distribution et l’exploitation cinématographique.

Meet our steering committee! #2 ✨

With only two weeks to go before the first stage in Strasbourg, meet Marie-Alix Fourquenay, Cinema Project Manager for the Grand Est Region and member of the Steering Committee for the latest edition of Futura Cinema, interviewed during the Festival de Cannes by l'agence so. 🎤

Meet our Alumni! ✨

To mark the return to the office, meet Paul Bouchard, Business Development Director at Diversion and representative of Territoires Immersifs, one of the projects from the 2024 cohort of Futura Cinema.
Interviewed at the Festival de Cannes by l'agence so, he shares his experience in the programme. 🎤

👉 He looks back on his time at Futura Cinema and on Territoires Immersifs, a project to equip and programme virtual reality works in cinemas and cultural venues, developed during the third edition of Futura Cinema!

📣 A new edition marked by collective intelligence!

Here’s a closer look at the two programmes Futura Cinema will be rolling out across Europe in 2025-2026. Get ready for more than a year of collaboration, creation and experimentation!

🚀 INCUBATION PROGRAMME

This programme will take selected participants to five European festivals, with each stage dedicated to a key phase of project development.

🖥️ Sept. 2025 – online session to meet participants & introduce the main steps ahead.
1️⃣ Oct. 2025 – Festival Européen du Film Fantastique de Strasbourg / Strasbourg 🇫🇷 – creative ideation & team building.
2️⃣ Jan. 2026 – CIMIx by AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA / Vienna 🇦🇹 – audience needs & market exploration.
3️⃣ March 2026 – CPH:DOX / Copenhagen 🇩🇰 – legal structuring & business model.
4️⃣ June 2026 – Brussels International Film Festival / Brussels 🇧🇪 – finalisation & pitch workshop, with a view to presenting the projects to industry professionals.
5️⃣ Sept./Oct. – FILMFEST HAMBURG / Hamburg 🇩🇪 – final pitch & publication of projects.

🔬 EXPERIMENTATION NETWORK

This programme will focus on experimenting with innovative tools and devices for cinema spaces through a European network.

🖥️ Sept. 2025 – An online introductory session to lay the groundwork and meet all the participants to the network.
1️⃣ Oct. 2025 – Festival Européen du Film Fantastique de Strasbourg / Strasbourg 🇫🇷 – networking and focus on an experimental protocol.
2️⃣ June 2026 – Brussels International Film Festival / Brussels 🇧🇪 – mid-term review of initial results.
3️⃣ Dec. 2026 – Les Arcs Film Festival / Les Arcs 🇫🇷 – presentation of final results, evaluation and closure of the programme.

Meet our Alumni! #1 ✨

During this well-deserved summer break, meet Alix Ménard, current managing director of CINA and alumnus of the Futura Cinema programme as co-founder of the European festival Imperceptibles, who was interviewed at the Festival de Cannes by l'agence so. 🎤

👉 She looks back at the genesis of the project, developed in 2021 during the first edition of Futura Cinema: a travelling film festival with secret evening screenings and an augmented reality treasure hunt in each host city. Alix also shares her experience of the steering committee, which she joined last year for the 2024 edition!
