Blue Moon Film Festival Film Festival celebrating women filmmakers in Newcastle upon Tyne. After a very successful 2014 festival, Blue Moon will run again in the autumn 2016.

Blue Moon is a new Film Festival celebrating women filmmakers and taking place in Newcastle upon Tyne. Its first edition will take place on 21 Oct-25 Nov 2014 across 3 independent cinemas: the Side Cinema, the Star & Shadow Cinema and the Tyneside Cinema. Blue Moon Film Festival showcases internationally acclaimed films made by women that haven’t been sown in Newcastle before: 2 documentaries, 1 c

omedy, an open film night for local filmmakers with a panel discussion and a night of silent films + live music. Still today, women are in the minority in the filmmaking world – only 1 woman has ever won the Oscar for Best Director in the last 85 years, only 1 woman has won the Palme D’Or at Cannes Film Festival since the start of the festival in 1946, and women account for only 5% of all filmmakers in Hollywood.
