Will Your Film Sell? 🎬

A film can look great on the big screen, but the real question is: can it sell?

The audience is bigger than just cinemas, and the market is bigger than just drama, comedy and romance.

There are audiences waiting for thrillers, horror, action, sci-fi and more.

Maybe it’s time to step outside the comfort zone and give them something different.

What genre do you think Nigerian filmmakers should explore more?

The Future of Cinema Is More Than the Movie. 🎬

With content now available at our fingertips, the question is no longer just, “Can I watch this movie?”

It’s “Why should I watch it at the cinema?”

From the screen and sound to comfort, technology, food, and the overall atmosphere, every part of the experience matters.

The cinema is no longer just selling tickets.
It is selling an experience worth leaving home for.

What would make you choose the cinema over your living room?

TELL STORIES THAT CAN TRAVEL. 🌍🎬

At NIFS Lagos, Claude Mwamba shared a powerful reminder: great stories can be deeply rooted in culture while still speaking to audiences around the world.

Start with a universal theme, then tell it through your own cultural lens.

A LEGEND TAKES HIS FINAL BOW 🎬

Today, we honour Sir Olu Jacobs — the Lion of Lufodo, a towering figure whose presence shaped Nigerian theatre, television and film.

From the stages of Britain to international cinema and the evolution of Nollywood, he devoted decades to the art of storytelling. With every role, he brought a rare depth, dignity and presence that made his characters unforgettable.

His legacy, however, reaches beyond the screen. Through his work and his commitment to nurturing the creative industry, he helped open doors for generations who came after him.

The screen may go dark, but the light of his impact continues to illuminate our world.

Thank you for the stories, the artistry and the legacy.

Rest peacefully, Olu Jacobs. 🕊️

STORIES BUILD WORLDS 🎬

In his keynote at NIFS 2026, Emmanuel Iren shared his thoughts on the emotional power of storytelling and why a good story can make fiction feel surprisingly real.

Because sometimes, you don’t have to live through something to feel it; a well-told story can take you there.

That’s the power of storytelling. ❤️

MAKE THE BEST FILM WITH WHAT YOU HAVE. 🎬
As young filmmakers, the goal shouldn’t be to simply meet the minimum standard. It should be to make something that makes an impact.

With the resources you have, focus on creating the best film possible, not just the easiest one to deliver.

ONE FILM CAN OPEN THE DOOR FOR MANY. 🎬
When a film succeeds, it leaves more than numbers behind. It creates data, builds audience confidence, and shows what’s possible for other filmmakers.

At the NIFS 2026 Critics’ Roundtable & Industry Think Tank, the conversation explored what these successes mean for the future of Nollywood , and how we can create more opportunities for young filmmakers to grow.

That’s how an industry evolves: we learn, we build, and we make room for what comes next.
