The wait for our massive surprise is over! All the way from the Coyote Drive-In in Fort Worth, Texas the Hi-Road Drive-In has new Screen 1 waiting for assembly! Once completed, this will be the 3rd largest screen in Ohio and largest outside of the Cleveland area! We will be starting the permit process for construction over the winter and hope to have construction moving forward by mid-2027!
The History: When the Hi-Road opened in 1949, it had a screen that measured 80' x 40'. After many years, the wooden screen had deteriorated and was taken out by a storm. The Hi-Road bought a brand-new Selby screen the following year. Though smaller, this metal screen could take a beating and has given us many fantastic years.
The Plan: Our current 57' x 27' Screen 1 will be moved to its new home on the hill across the lot, replacing our current screen 2. This will allow for easier viewing and an overall better experience for those enjoying movies on the New Screen 2! Our New Screen 1 will be constructed directly behind our current Screen 1. This will allow for us to remain open while construction is going on. Though this is an ambitious project, we are wanting to make it known that the Hi-Road is in this for the long haul. We have no plans of going anywhere. We love our patrons and rely on their continuous support to allow projects like this to happen.
Now for how we got the screen... The Coyote Drive-In was a Drive-In Movie Theater that opened in 2012 in Fort Worth, Texas. In September, 2026, their contract with the City of Fort Worth expired and the Coyote's patrons got one final screening on September 7, 2026. The area is now being developed into an entertainment district. Unfortunately, this means that we were only able to purchase this screen due to another drive-in movie theater closing. While this screen will no longer bring the residents of Fort Worth memories, it will have a new beginning for the community here in Kenton, Ohio.
