DC Film Society The Washington, DC Film Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the appreciation of quality mainstream, international and independent films.

Paid members enjoy free sneak preview screenings and lots more. The Washington, DC Film Society, founded in 1991, is a group of enthusiastic film lovers who enjoy quality mainstream, international, and independent films. Our common interest is the love of film. Low-cost membership is valid from June 1 thru May 31. DC Film Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to an appreciation of quality

mainstream, international and independent films. Members enjoy free sneak preview screenings and discounted admission to several fundraising events, including an annual "AND THE WINNER IS..." Oscar party and twice annual COMING ATTRACTIONS TRAILER NIGHT. All proceeds from membership and revenues from fundraising activities support the work of the Film Society and its parent organization, FilmFest DC, the Washington, DC International Film Festival. Our monthly newsletter, Storyboard, informs members of upcoming events and film festivals in the DC region, which include both our own screenings and fundraising events, and those of other area groups.

Join us Sunday, May 17 at 5pm at The Filling Station (4201 Wilson Blvd Suite 150-160, Arlington, VA 22230) for this month’s Resistance Readings Project: an evening of film and conversation featuring a screening of The Infection, alongside bonus screenings of Longacre Lea’s She Speaks to Trees and The Doors of Impression.

Following the screenings, Longacre Lea Artistic Director and Avant Bard Artistic Associate Kathleen Akerley will lead a conversation with the audience.

Resistance Readings are FREE to attend, with food and drink available for purchase through El Rey.

History making achievement.

Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" makes Oscars history, becoming the most-nominated movie of all time.

The previous record of 14 nominations was held by "All About Eve" in 1951, "Titanic" in 1998, and "La La Land" in 2017.

A vampire film set in 1930s Mississippi, "Sinners" became a major box office hit last year, proving the film’s reach had broadened beyond horror fans to mainstream audiences.

Amongst its 16 nominations, it has earned nods for "Best picture," "Best original screenplay," "Best original song," and "Best costume design."
As well as earning nominations for Michael B.

Jordan for "Best lead actor," "Delroy Lindo" for "Best supporting actor," Wunmi Mosaku for "Best supporting actress," and Ryan Coogler for "Best director."
