MOVIE REVEAL #8 - 27TH ANNUAL LABOR DAY WEEKEND TRIPLE FEATURE EXTRAVAGANZA!!!™

The #8 movie of the Summer of 2026 is "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu". Baby Yoda's starturn debuted over Memorial Day Weekend and racked up over $177 million at the domestic box office. Interestingly, "Mandalorian and Grogu" will be only the second Star Wars movie to appear in a Labor Day Weekend triple feature. "Solo: A Star Wars Story" was also released on Memorial Day Weekend and appeared in the 2018 Extravaganza. "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu" will be the third feature on Screen 2 during this year's 27th Annual Labor Day Weekend Triple Feature Extravaganza!!!™.

Clue #9 - This live-action remake stars the actor who voiced the same animated character.

The full weekend line-up will be announced on Tuesday.

MOVIE REVEAL #7 - 27TH ANNUAL LABOR DAY WEEKEND TRIPLE FEATURE EXTRAVAGANZA!!!™

In 2010, "Despicable Me" introduced the Minions to the world. Gru's little yellow henchmen captured the hearts and tickled the funny bones of movie-goers with their Three Stooges-like antics. The #7 movie of the Summer of 2026, "Minions & Monsters", turned the Minions' retro appeal into a meta movie-within-a-movie homage to Hollywood's past. Over 40 classic movies were referenced in "Minions & Monsters". Even the credits got into the gag, with thanks offered to all Minions who contributed to the movie. Who knew that James was such a great movie mogul?

The Minions have been a familiar presence in The Big MO's Labor Day Weekend festivities. They've appeared in "Despicable Me" (2010), "Despicable Me 2" (2013), "Minions" (2015), "Despicable Me 3" (2017), "Minions: The Rise of Gru" (2022), and "Despicable Me 4" (2024). This year, "Minions & Monsters", which has grossed nearly $173 million in domestic box office earnings, will be the second feature on the Main Field during The 27th Annual Labor Day Weekend Triple Feature Extravaganza!!!™.

Clue #8 - In a drive-in not so far away, the eighth biggest movie of the Summer of 2026 starred "Baby Yoda".

MOVIE REVEAL #6 - 27TH ANNUAL LABOR DAY WEEKEND TRIPLE FEATURE EXTRAVAGANZA!!!™

When "Backrooms" first appeared on the release calendar, little was expected from it. Sure, the filmmaker had produced a viral video on YouTube, but few thought this property could make the leap to the big screen. Plus, it was being released by an independent studio against the second weekend of a Star Wars movie. Conventional thinking relegated "Backrooms" to ... well ... a backroom.

Then, something amazing happened. The buzz on "Backrooms" started to grow. Opening estimates began to rise. Before the May 29th release weekend, most prognosticators placed the opening gross in the mid-teens. Instead, the movie blew out of the gate with a jaw-dropping $38.4 million and finished its run with over $197 million in the domestic box office.

"Backrooms" was the seventh biggest movie of the Summer of 2026. It will be the third feature on Screen 3 during The 27th Annual Labor Day Weekend Triple Feature Extravaganza!!!™.

Clue #7 - This family-friendly flick featured an homage to Hollywood with over forty movies referenced during its ninety-minute runtime.

MOVIE REVEAL #5 - 27TH ANNUAL LABOR DAY WEEKEND TRIPLE FEATURE EXTRAVAGANZA!!!™

When does a sequel that took twenty years to make it to the big screen make sense? When it's the #5 movie of the Summer of 2026, "The Devil Wears Prada 2". The movie featured four of the stars from the "prequel" reprising their roles - Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. Ms. Hathaway had a particularly good summer as she also appeared in the #2 movie of the season, "The Odyssey".

"Prada 2" was released at the earliest possible date for a summer movie - May 1st. It grossed over $220 million, nearly $96 million more than 2006's "The Devil Wears Prada."

"The Devil Wears Prada 2" will be the second feature on Screen 2 during The 27th Annual Labor Day Weekend Triple Feature Extravaganza!!!™.

Clue #6 - This YouTube sensation jumped to the big screen and shockingly bumped a Star Wars movie out of the top spot with a $38.4 opening.

MOVIE REVEAL #4 - 27TH ANNUAL LABOR DAY WEEKEND TRIPLE FEATURE EXTRAVAGANZA!!!™

Perhaps the strangest trip to the top nine movies of the Summer of 2026 was taken by the #4 movie, "Obsession". This small-budget horror flick about supernatural obsessive behavior debuted May 15th with an impressive, yet unspectacular, weekend gross of nearly $17.2 million. Normally, a movie like this would lose 50% of its draw in the second weekend and get washed away in a wave of summer blockbusters.

"Obsession" bucked conventional thinking by gaining an astounding 39.3% in its second weekend of release and another mind-bending 14.3% over weekend #3. On Memorial Day, the movie racked up nearly $4.6 million on a single day. Over the next four weeks, the film dropped by amazingly paltry percentages - 7.3%, 25.1%, 29.5%, and 27.6%. Thirty-five days into release, the little horror movie that could reach $200 million in domestic box office.

"Obsession", which has now grossed over $263 million, will be the second feature on Screen 3 during The 27th Annual Labor Day Weekend Triple Feature Extravaganza!!!™.

Clue #5 - This summer's #5 movie is a sequel to a 20-year old film that starred several of the same actresses, including one who appeared in another extravaganza movie already identified.

MOVIE REVEAL #3 - 27TH ANNUAL LABOR DAY WEEKEND TRIPLE FEATURE EXTRAVAGANZA!!!™

The #3 movie of the Summer of 2026 is "Toy Story 5". The June 19th release is the biggest "Toy Story" movie yet (with over $578 million in the domestic box office and counting). The film registered the only sellout of the season when it sold out the Main Field on Saturday, June 20th. It didn't hurt the movie's prospects when Pixar's creative team decided to include Taylor Swift's #1 single "I Knew It, I Knew You" at the beginning of the closing credits.

"Toy Story 5" is not the first Disney/Pixar animation to land in a Labor Day Weekend show. The latest adventure of Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and friends was preceded by "Finding Nemo" (2003), "Cars" (2006), "Ratatouille" (2007), "WALL-E" (2008), "Up" (2009), "Toy Story 3" (2010), "Cars 2" (2011), "Brave" (2012), "Monsters University" (2013), "Inside Out" (2015), "Finding Dory" (2016), "Incredibles 2" (2018), "Toy Story 4" (2019), "Lightyear" (2022), "Elemental" (2023), and "Inside Out 2" (2024). In other words, this year's #3 summer movie will be the 17th appearance of a Pixar movie in an Extravaganza. 17-for-27 is not bad.

"Toy Story 5" will be the first feature on the Main Field during The 27th Annual Labor Day Weekend Triple Feature Extravaganza!!!™.

Clue #4 - This summer's #4 movie never finished at #1 over a weekend. However, its second weekend was better than its first, and its third weekend was better than its second. Its fourth weekend was better than its second, and its fifth weekend was better than its first. Simply put, this movie had legs and exceptional word of mouth.

The #2 movie of the Summer of 2026 is "The Odyssey". The Homeric epic directed by Christopher Nolan has grossed over $539 million domestically since its July 17 release. It is now the #2 R-rated movie in history, trailing only 2024's "Deadpool & Wolverine" by less than $98 million . "The Odyssey" will be the lead feature on Screen 3 during The 27th Annual Labor Day Weekend Triple Feature Extravaganza!!!™.

Clue #3 - The #3 movie of the summer featured the return of some old friends and a #1 credits song from Taylor Swift.

27TH ANNUAL LABOR DAY WEEKEND TRIPLE FEATURE EXTRAVAGANZA!!!™ - MOVIE REVEAL #1

The #1 movie of the Summer of 2026 is "Spider-Man: Brand New Day". This MARVELous epic grossed a record $360 million at the domestic box office over its opening weekend. It hasn't looked back since. It has now grossed over $2.2 billion globally and is currently the #3 domestic-grossing movie ever. Spidey will likely pass the number two film, "Avengers: Endgame", today and is less than $82 million away from the all-time #1 movie, 2015's "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens".

Perhaps the webslinger's success this summer shouldn't have been so surprising. Seven Spider-Man movies have graced the screen in Monetta over Labor Day Weekend since 2004: "Spider-Man 2" (2004), "Spider-Man 3" (2007), "The Amazing Spider-Man" (2012), "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" (2014), "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017), "Spider-Man: Far from Home" (2019), and "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" (2023). Throw in a cameo appearance in "Captain America: Civil War" in 2016, and Spider-Man has been a working man over the Labor Day Weekend holiday. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" will be the first feature on Screen 2 during The 27th Annual Labor Day Weekend Triple Feature Extravaganza!!!™.

Clue #2 - The second biggest movie of the summer is also the second biggest R-rated movie of all-time.

The full weekend line-up will be announced on Tuesday.
