It is a sad day for Cut To the Chase Film Festival. Co-directors Natoma Vargason and Bill Veldran have decided to cease all production of the festival. We have faced many challenges over the past six years, primarily in the areas of logistics, staffing and funding. With the recent loss of venues, those challenges have now become insurmountable.

We would like to take this time to thank some very important people who have made this festival a great ride.

First, without the amazing work of Jay Jones, our film reel would not look as professional as it did. His tireless efforts were instrumental to our success and he never let us down!

Our talented trophy artisans, Bradley Sanders and Scott Cawood. They both created custom trophies that were unique to Cut To The Chase!

Vante Velte delivered all those great teasers as well as an award-winning film.

Our sponsors:

The Nora Roberts Foundation has provided our festival with the funds needed to bring it to life each and every year.

ParaMounts Artifact & Exhibit Specialists, Thanks Nancey you have supported us from day one in many ways.

Domestic - thanks Doug!

Blue Moon Cafe, Thanks Mary Beth, we had many working lunches there and you always had a big smile for us

Grapes and Grains - kudos to Cheryl Gallery!

Rob Loosey and Ritamarie Schmidt for those amazing cocktails from The Bloomery,

Rich Raposa of Jefferson Distributing for all that beer!

NOMAD EventSystems, Matt was out great AV guy!

To all our film makers and judges. Without you we would be nowhere. Keep making great films; keep honing your craft! Tell your stories and never give up! When you make it to the Oscars, remember us when you are thanking people as you raise that trophy! And never forget that the trophy you won at Cut To The Chase Film Festival is a one off! Finally, thanks to everyone who came out and supported the festival.

Take action!

URGENT -- Senate Finance Chair Craig Blair is refusing to put HB2941 on his committee agenda for a vote (it passed the House with an overwhelming majority vote of 73-26). This bill will die in committee and NOT be advanced to the floor. YOUR VOICE NEEDS TO BE HEARD. Call Senator Blair and respectfully urge him to let his committee vote on HB2941. -- 304-357-7867

-- the bill SUPPORTS small businesses & entrepreneurs
-- the bill SUPPORTS job opportunities for WVians
-- the bill GENERATES tax revenue for the state
-- the bill DOES NOT take away money from Tourism! (a lie that is being spread & believed by vulnerable people who are not educating themselves on the topic)

At the Blue Ribbon Diner, my mother's Cheers, I met eight ladies clutching their purses hard under their arms as we waited for a table. There was mom's best friend Hannah, who had worked at Victoria's Secret for 22 years; Sheila, who retired with mom from GE in 1984; Sue, who went with mom to the Fussbudgets, an investor's club for penny-pinching seniors. All these longtime friends gathered around, hanging on her every word. She was the center of their universe, or that's how it seemed.

So the trophy saga continues. Seems it might be on its way back to us in the US. If the label got dislodged from the package the French Post Office sends it back from where it came!

So bummed out looks as if the winner of this years festival Pierre Gaiffe's trophy has been stolen! Thanks postal service for insuring poor service!

It's never to early to begin your 2019 entry! We all have a memory of the classic diner. Maybe it was on your first date. Maybe you proposed to your wife over a slice of cake that was bigger then your head. Maybe it was after a night out at the club. Such a great background for your next C2C entry!

WEEKEND UPDATE....................
Due to circumstances beyond our control we have changed up our plans. As much as we wanted to watch this year’s reel under the stars, a force of nature named Florence interjected her will upon us. Friday night will go off as scheduled at the Entler Hotel from 7 – 10:00 PM. Saturday evening Screening & Award Ceremonies will be moved to the Shepherdstown Train Station on Audrey Egle Drive. The best news is there will be plenty of parking and we will all stay dry. Doors open at 7:00 PM come for the fun, come for films. Screening will start at 8:00. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door for both events.

Visit Shepherdstown before the screening on Saturday. Stop by Grapes and Grains Gourmet for a Wine Tasting and try their new stuff featuring a great Chilean Blend, South African Rose and a lovely German Riesling. Thank you to Cheryl J Gallery and her staff for your continued support. See you at the movies!

We have new stuff to try on our tasting Saturday: A great Chilean Blend and a fantastic South African Rosé. We will also have a crisp and lovely German Riesling! Come see us 1 - 7 Saturday afternoon and try these great wines! Fun!

Our tasting notes:

Heinz Eifel Riesling Spatlese - (Germany) Rich and full with aromas of stone aromas and minerality. An elegant Riesling that offers a palate of different stone and tree fruit notes such as peach and apricot. Luscious and full-bodied with a long and fresh finish. An ideal dinner Riesling and also can be enjoyed with riper, aged cheeses and spicy cuisine due to its enhanced complexity.

Graham Beck Gorgeous (South Africa) 64% Pinot Noir / 36% Chardonnay - This lovely Rosé has been crafted using fruit from young, newly planted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards which are planned to become the foundation of the winery`s award-winning Methode Cape Classique portfolio. The attractive vibrant pink with a copper tinge is very appealing. The wine delivers a richly textured taste sensation with intriguing layers that unfold delicately on the palate. It features spicy, mineral scented aromas of orange blossom, jasmine and pear followed by layers of mouth filling raspberry cream, grapefruit, lime and honeydew melon flavors. A juicy acidity provides the perfect balance followed by a clean, satisfying finish. Great with starters, chicken, vegetables and seafood.

Lapostolle Red Blend - (Chile) 2% Cabernet Franc, 28% Syrah, 23% Carménère, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot - Intense and deep red with violet edges. Aromas of red and black fruits such as sour cherry and berries along with spicy notes. Good fruit expression with soft tannins delivering an extra dose of elegance. Decant for 30 minutes and serve around 65°F. Ideal companion for barbecue pork ribs, prosciutto and cheese.

Can’t wait to share this film with our audience on Saturday during the screening.
“African Animals’ Lullaby,” an indie, family, "slice-of-life" film, incorporates authentic sounds and photographs of East African animals, set to a poem written by the film’s co-director and award-winning children’s book author and conservation educator Jessica Dimuzio, VMD. The film is co-directed and edited by Emmy award-winning composer Rodney Whittenberg, and narrated by internationally renowned, Pew Fellowship in the Arts recipient, master storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston.
The story is based on Dr. Dimuzio’s experiences living in a tent on Maasai territory outside the Maasai Mara Reserve in Kenya. She lived similarly to the Maasai with no running water or electronic equipment. Her closest neighbors were a bachelor herd of elephants, three prides of lions, and a few Maasai families. Without modern noises to disturb the natural habitat, the voices of the animals became her “music.” As she watched little Maasai girls leave their boma to collect firewood and water, Dr. “D” wondered if, like her, they recalled the sounds of the day as they fell asleep.
