SEEfest

The 15th annual South East European Film Festival in Los Angeles (SEEfest), rallied to overcome the pandemic-driven domino effect of postponements and launched the U.S. online premiere of no less than 50 acclaimed films from culturally rich and diverse 20 countries of South East Europe, celebrating resilience on and off-screen. The 2020 edition of SEEfest runs through August 16, at the dedicated online outlet athome.seefilmla.org.

The 2020 SEEfest Online features a rigorously curated program including Romania's psychological thriller Legacy which has already been picked up by Netflix-EU; Kosovo's haunting story about motherhood and war traumas, Zana; mother-daughter story Pilate, an adaptation of the novel by the celebrated Hungarian writer, Magda Szabó.

A roster of other films exemplify SEEfest's own indomitable spirit, such as multi-awarded Turkish Queen Lear, with a cast of salvar-wearing rural women playing Shakespeare; Croatian Schindler's List-type story, The Diary of Diana B. about the unsung heroine of WWII, the Bulgarian My Gypsy Road about the first-ever indigenous Roma woman to graduate from the Academy of Dramatic Arts, and dozens more.

Festival passes and individual tickets are available at https://athome.seefilmla.org/.

SEEfest presents cinematic and cultural diversity of South East Europe to American audiences; supported, in part, by the California Arts Council, a state agency; Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture; by an Arts Grant from the City of West Hollywood; by ELMA, Foundation for European Languages and Movies in America, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

SEEfest

The 15th annual South East European Film Festival in Los Angeles (SEEfest) (seefilmla.org), postponed in April due to the covid-19 pandemic, announced today the official launch of its 2020 edition which will run from July 15 – August 16, at the dedicated online outlet https://athome.seefilmla.org. #SEEfest2020

The 2020 festival edition, SEEfest’s 15th annual, features a rigorously curated program of 57 films highlighting the cinematic expressions of South East Europe’s cultural diversity across twenty countries. North American premieres in the program include, among others, three remarkable debuts: Romania’s Legacy, a rare psychological thriller from the country known for its trailblazing new wave cinema;

Kosovo’s haunting story about motherhood and struggles with war times traumas in ZANA; and mother-daughter story about aging in the modern world, Pilate, an adaptation of the novel by the celebrated Hungarian writer, Magda Szabó. Also on the program are Bulgarian My Gypsy Road whose heroine is the first-ever Roma woman to graduate from the Academy of Dramatic Arts; and Bora, Stories of a Wind, a visually magnificent parable about freedom paying a poignant tribute to the multi-ethnic intersection of Slavic, Italian, and Germanic cultures in the Northern Adriatic.

All program information and links are published on the festival website at https://seefilmla.org/. Festival passes and individual tickets are available at https://athome.seefilmla.org/.

COLCOA French Film Festival

COLCOA French Film Festival

Breaking News! COLCOA postponed to 2021 (September 20-26) - 25th anniversary.

The 2020 edition of the COLCOA French Film Festival will be postponed and carried forward to autumn of 2021. Still programmed at the Directors Guild of America on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, the festival will now take place from September 20-26th, 2021, year of its 25th anniversary celebration.

With the continuing health situation in the United States, which is different from Europe at the moment, and the uncertainties that remain as to the situation in the autumn, we cannot guarantee they will be able to provide a safe event that remains true to the mission of the festival.

This was a difficult decision to make. We explored all possible options. Each festival is distinct and COLCOA, a prestigious and widely publicized event, offers a unique platform to promote French films and series in Hollywood at the beginning of the awards season. Annually, the festival brings the highest-caliber French filmmakers and talent to Los Angeles for red carpet premieres, numerous panels and screenings, as well as the opportunity for high-profile collaborations between French and American professionals. In addition, more than 20,000 audience members - including journalists, students, industry professionals and the general public - attend the festival annually.

The alternative possibility of a digital edition was deemed not compatible with COLCOA. We consider, in line with our colleagues from the Cannes or Locarno Festivals, that screenings in the theatres are fundamentally and symbolically important for all official premieres of a film in Hollywood and that this form of public event will remain necessary and popular even after the crisis. However, we will continue to integrate online capabilities into our overall outreach efforts in our future editions. Additionally, COLCOA is present throughout the year on social media and we will continue to support commercial promotion of French films and TV series in the United States.

We are looking forward to celebrating with you our 25th anniversary at the Directors Guild of America in Hollywood. in the Autumn of 2021, at the beginning of the Awards Season. Meanwhile stay tuned: We will continue to support promote your French Films and series on this page all year long.
