founded by Baruch Porras Hernandez in 2014, created in part by a grant from the Galeria de la Raza. Since 2014 DEMG has been a part of poetry festivals like LitQuake, Beast Crawl, Write This Way, and has done performances at Universities, Bars, Theatres, Movie Theatres, Bookstores, Sexual Health Clinics, and the legendary The Chapel performance venue. Founded in 1970, the Galería is a non-profit community-based arts organization whose mission is to foster public awareness and appreciation of Chicano/Latino art and serve as a laboratory where artists can both explore contemporary issues in art, culture and civic society, and advance intercultural dialogue. To implement our mission, the Galería supports Latino artists in the visual, literary, media and performing art fields whose works explore new aesthetic possibilities for socially committed art. The ReGen Artist Fund is a small grants program that seeks to provide Latino artists the grant writing and artistic program planning skills to write competitive proposals and to access government and foundation arts funding. The workshop presenters will explore strategies to make artistic projects compelling, to design projects that address the funders’ priorities, to target and reach an audience and to develop a budget, a work sample and a biographical summary. By the workshop’s conclusion, all participants will have completed a proposal draft and will have an additional two weeks to submit a final application to Galería.
