Today we celebrate much more than a date.

My wife and I escaped Cuba searching for something many people take for granted, but for us meant life itself: freedom, independence, and the opportunity to build a future with dignity.

We left behind our homeland, our history, and many things we loved, but we carried hope—the hope of finding a place where we could live without fear, work with purpose, dream big, and raise a family in freedom.

And the United States embraced us.

This country gave us freedom, opportunity, safety, hope, and far more than we ever imagined. Here, we have been able to work, grow, believe, build, and pursue our American Dream.

That is why today we celebrate with hearts full of gratitude. We celebrate because we deeply love this nation. We celebrate because we know what it means to live without freedom, and that is why we value even more the blessing of living in the greatest country in the world.

We are proud and happy to call the United States our home.
