Thank you DC Metro Theater Arts for featuring us and our upcoming Other Desert Cities show!

Get caught up in a gripping family drama The New York Times calls "a razor's edge of affection and aggression" with "Other Desert Cities" at Peace Mountain Theatre Company! A finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, this play focuses on the return of a long-absent daughter, who spends a holiday with her wealthy family - only to disrupt their comfortable country-club existence. In the intervening years, absence and adversity have drawn them closer, but have also increased their power to nurture and wound each other. This production will leave you feeling both moved and gratifyingly sated. Find tickets now! http://bit.ly/35DmKfj

It wouldn’t be a complete “Meet the Cast” series without sharing a few thoughts from our wonderful Director, and Artistic Director of Peace Mountain Theatre Company, Laurie Freed. If you haven’t experienced it yet – this Sunday, October 28 at 2:00 is your LAST CHANCE to catch this wonderful performance!

“A SHAYNA MAIDEL…The title might create certain predispositions, or expectations about ethnicity, but the play is about humanity: a family survives disaster and picks up their lives and lives again. This could be happening today – in Syria, Sudan, Latin America and sadly so many other locales.

In Yiddish, a shayna maidel means a pretty girl. According to playwright, Barbara Lebow, surface beauty is not the only translation. Shayna can stand for good, dear, kind or radiant, and all of these qualities originate in the soul. Ms. Lebow said, ‘…it’s a term of endearment, adoration and hope; it’s about the precious nature of a child, about feelings for the future and it’s a phrase that applies to different characters in a play.’ Regarding Ms. Lebow’s approach to the play’s issues, she said, ‘So much has been written about the Holocaust that I would never presume to do that. What I’m interested in is the emotional response to the event, the feelings it engendered – how some of us who did not experience it are repelled and fascinated, guilty and concerned – and still wondering.’

She goes on to say, ‘A Shayna Maidel, subtitled The Life of a Family, deals with the healing of a family torn asunder by World War II.’ How does one repair and make whole a family that has been separated for years? How does one forgive the deeds of those who move on whilst leaving others behind? How does one move beyond guilt and darkly hidden secrets? This is a universal play about a universal family – familiar to all of us, no matter one’s ethnicity. Now, more than ever, what it has to say is vitally important.”

Join us this Sunday.
