To be sure, there are more than two distinctive categories in swimming that stretch beyond the above mentioned: gender and age.

For example, there are those with clean urine and those with tainted amounts. There are those with good grades, and those with eligibility problems. There are those that appear and log into drug testing and those that go AWOL. There are able body folks and those within special Olympic categories. Veterans, or not. Firefighters, or not, as there are first-responder games, as there have been multi-sport celebrations for LGBTQ too. Plus, we have swimming for the politically privileged and then those for the oppressed who might reside within the borders of the prohibited, outlawed, boycotted, etc.
This is just off the top of my head.
Plus, there is a bit of a trend to hold races where boys and girls compete against each other -- as in mixed relays. They do that often in meets in New Zealand. Or, even in a running marathon. Split out the results after the competition ends.
Here is my #1 point: Put a fork in the idea of only having two distinctive categories.
Point #2: We all win by addition. More is better, generally, IMNSHO.

Does Norway Have the Answer to Excess in Youth Sports?

Most children play organized sports in Norway, but enjoyment is prized more than winning. And the manic drive for scholarships is alien. Are there lessons for the United States?

What are the most common overuse injuries seen in 'weekend warrior' adults?

Weekend warriors adults need to worry most about the ills of hibernation. Doing nothing has got to be the biggest sin.

Then, the next category of self-injury that I'd point out has to do with negative over-use such as alcohol, drug use, or just too much bar food munching.

But, to your point, sorta, is a common overuse that causes pain is the exploitation of one's family budget of fun stuff. Overuse of the credit card! Got ya again. But really, some people just get into a venture and spend too much. It is great to have a $6,000 bike, but really? You want a light kayak and they glide like lightening, but come on now. Be prudent with the finances.

Then when you get into the sporting actions, the most common injuries I seem to see with my peers is bruised egos. Feelings get kicked to the curb and on-field / on-court antics get out-of-hand, or just get really annoying. Bickering is often forgotten, but not fully. Some can't deal with that at all. Then they'll check out with an ego injury.

Humm, wondering why our fearless leader didn't tag me to answer the question now seems to be better understood.

But, I'd say, overuse injuries for weekend warriors depend upon the sporting activities -- other than those already mentioned, as they're universal.

Basketball has its fingers and hand issues.

Football has its ankles and knee problems.

Regardless, getting old isn't a lot of fun. But, doing it without sports in one's life is a lot less joyful.

This Episode covers:

The establishment of the world-renowned collegiate recruitment program and the reasons for its success.
High-performance triathlon now and then - what has changed in the last 15-20 years in training and racing?
Long-term athletic development for elite athletes and for age-group athletes.
Things that age-groupers tend to underestimate, and on the flipside, over-value.
Fitting triathlon into life, and not life around triathlon for age-group triathletes.

Make sure your life is not wrapped up in a race result . This takes care of the fear caused by racing because your self-worth and identity are already taken care of.
