Many in the art and performance world right now are asking for pieces, works and responses to the current health crisis that is exposing systemic inequalities sustained by oppressive capitalism.

To see this request of artists is also the many artists and collectives (mainly Black, Latinx, Indigenous, LGBTQGNC, immigrant and disabled) that have already created works, written texts and concentrated efforts combating these oppressive issues made more visible by the COVID19 crisis.

Wildcat is one of those collectives.

Wildcat was formed by artists Jeremy Toussaint-Baptiste, and André M. Zachery that examines precarity as a constant condition for the majority of people in society. Framed as a civic-minded organization, Wildcat was formed in 2013 out of a mutual interest in exploring how people organize and support each other in an unstable and imbalanced world. As artists, the group is interested in exploring the creative and unique ways people collectively work to survive and operate in their financial uncertainty while being conscious of how race, gender, class, economic conditions, and geographic location factor into this dynamic. Wildcat is dedicated to the practice of any means of social interaction performed, created, or distributed that educates, empowers, and mobilizes people to recognize and respond collectively against all forms of inequality and injustice.

The Wildcat motto is:

In 2014 Wildcat conducted their thesis I Do Mind Dying: Danse Precarité which literally was about intersectional practices of collective tactical enfranchisement based on the labor history of the in Detroit from the years 1967-1976. The link to the performance is connected here.

So consider asking what has already been done by a plethora artists prior to this crisis and let us examine how this work can inform us on what we can do next.
