Galeria Galou

Galeria Galou Galería Galou is an alternative virtual art space The gallery is an unconventional art space that unfolds to the public in a variety of forms.

Galería Galou was born in 2003. What first was, a studio with occasional projects and exhibits, later became a cutting edge alternative gallery for emergent art. Founded by Venezuelan artist Patricia Cazorla with the help of Nancy Saleme, Alejandra Villasmil and Hisayasu Takashio, Galería Galou emerged alongside the Williamsburg phenomenon. With almost zero budget the gallery quickly attracted r

ecognition from gallery goers and artists, both nationally and internationally. Thanks to its juried exhibitions, selected curatorial proposals by young curators and participation at selected art fairs, Galería Galou became a bridge to many international artists, especially women and Venezuelans. Far from being a traditional gallery Galería Galou hosted a diverse array of initiatives such as: Vidéo Femmes, an artist talk with Venezuelan artist Nela Ochoa, curated by Yucef Merhi, Venezuelan artist and NYFA Fellowship in Digital/Electronic Arts grantee; Shortos, short films from Latin-American emerging filmmakers curated by Alejandro Fernández Almendras, Chilean filmmaker whose latest feature was recently selected for the Cannes Film Festival; and NISUS, a series of live performances of sound and video art, curated by Richard Garet, Uruguayan visual artist and NYSCA grantee. Furthermore, Galería Galou collaborated with the artist cooperative Werketage, and Galerie R31 (Berlin, Germany); with Solar Art and Design (East Hampton, NY); and with the New York City-based The Lab at Roger Smith Arts, among many others. Galería Galou couldn't have grown and thrived without the help and support from artists and art lovers. Our biggest gratitude goes to: Sofía Cazorla, Marina Garde, Lucia Pizzani, Ariadna Capasso, Uli Brahmst, Leonor Mendoza, Saeed Pourkay, Yucef Merhi, Rodolfo Graziano, Patricia Bernard (Empanadas Café), Juan Merino, Laura Turégano, Trinidad Fombella, Hernan Carrara, William Scheckel, Thierry Alet (Frère Independent), Marco Antonini, Denis Sheila Puri, Klaus, Armando Figueredo and the band Los Amigos Invisibles.
