Cowboy culture is and always has been, the handiwork of Buffalo Bill Cody. One of the first American celebrities, Cody invented the Rodeo and the Hero Cowboy out of his genuine adventures in the Old West. Buffalo Bill became world famous, make millions and go a long way to rewriting the history of the West in his own image - part truth, part imagination, it became the first Big Lie about who we are as a nation.

One of the original destroyers of the Plains Indian Nations, Buffalo Bill Cody would go on to become an international celebrity with this Wild West Show. He would also go a long way to rewrite the history of the United States by creating the mythology of the Hero Cowboy and demonizing the "original Americans" of this nation. This myth is still with us today and it informs the rampant gun violence that plagues us almost daily. *xandViolenceInAmerica
