Echo in the Canyon celebrates the explosion of popular music that came out of LA’s Laurel Canyon in the mid-60s as folk went electric and The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield and The Mamas and the Papas gave birth to the California Sound. It was a moment (1965 to 1967) when bands came to LA to emulate The Beatles and Laurel Canyon emerged as a hotbed of creativity and collaboration for a new generation of musicians who would soon put an indelible stamp on the history of American popular music.

Featuring Jakob Dylan, the film explores the Laurel Canyon scene via never-before-heard personal details behind the bands and their songs and how that music continues to inspire today. Echo in the Canyon contains candid conversations and performances with Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys), Michelle Phillips (The Mamas and the Papas), Stephen Stills (Buffalo Springfield), David Crosby (The Byrds), Roger McGuinn (The Byrds) their contemporaries Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Graham Nash and slightly younger followers Jackson Browne and Tom Petty (in his last film interview) as well as contemporary musicians influenced by their music such as Beck, Fiona Apple, Cat Power, Regina Spektor and Norah Jones.

REWIEWS:
“A richly evocative and entertainingly anecdotal overview of the 1960s Laurel Canyon music scene and its influence on contemporary artists."
- Variety

"By keeping things short, sweet and dutifully tuneful, 'Echo in the Canyon' is like the doc version of one of the period’s sonic nuggets, leaving you with a peace/love/understanding high and a desire to break out the vinyl for more of the same."
- The Los Angeles Times

"Music industry vet and first-time filmmaker Andrew Slater leverages his extensive connections to coax many luminaries of the era on camera, effortlessly interviewed by singer-songwriter Jakob Dylan of the Wallflowers. Rich with revealing observations and engaging anecdotes, Slater’s documentary skirts the nostalgia trap by entertainingly connecting with an impressive lineup of contemporary singer-songwriters referencing the influential '60s pop style with their own releases."
- The Hollywood Reporter

Occurrence at Mills Creek is a terrifying tale in the vein of an already completed short film designed to be the opening act of a full feature that follows Clara, a young woman burdened by guilt following the deaths of her mother and sister, as her reality erodes from the same strange occurrences that have plagued her family for generations.

From award-winning and internationally screened and reviewed filmmaker Don Swanson comes a new horror film that defies conventions - Occurrence at Mills Creek is currently in production! Featuring Betsy Lynn George of Billy Idol's Cradle of Love music video, the cast also includes Lynda Marnoni of George Romero's Season of the Witch and The Crazies, Mia Zanotti from NBC's The Voice, and the Langshaw Twins from Furious 7. Our cast also includes Alexa Mechling, Joe Fishel, and JP Edwards from the award-winning feature A Wish for Giants, Ivana Kingston from The Scarehouse, John-Patrick Driscoll who appeared in CBS's S.W.A.T., and the talented Mary Sack who recently won an award for her work on the short film, Cycle. The film also introduces Betsy's daughter, Ava Psoras, as Clara. These skilled performers are joined by an ever expanding cast to round out this gifted troupe along with a talented crew that is bringing this terrifying tale to life!
