Us scrolling through two new weeks of screenings for The Drive-In at Fiesta Texas, and seeing Summerween ☀️🎃 on the program.
Anyone else feel like time is an illusion in 2020? In that *spirit* (pun intended👻), we've decided to just go ahead and celebrate Halloween smack-dab in the middle of August. Hence, Summerween.
From Aug. 14–16 in San Antonio, we’ll be playing spooky and horror classics all weekend long, but that’s not all. At each screening, we’ll host a Trunk-or-Treat car decoration contest 🕸️🚗 with awesome prizes. You’re invited to dress up as well, but prizes will be awarded for the best car decor! You can find full rules on the films' ticket pages.
We’ve also got a spooktacular 😈 offer for Summerween weekend only. Buy a ticket for any early screening in our Summerween series, email a screenshot to [email protected], and we'll send you a $5 off voucher code available for any late Summerween screening. Use it for the same night to catch a double-feature, or come early one night and late another 🔮💫 The choice is yours.

Representation matters. We are committed to amplifying Black voices through film, and this Juneteenth, we have two sold out screenings of films written, directed and led by Black filmmakers and actors: Poetic Justice and Love Jones. While these are sold out, we have many more screenings coming up that celebrate Black creators in film, including The Princess and the Frog, Brown Sugar, Boyz in the Hood, Set It Off and more. Check out the programs for Houston and San Antonio on our website: rooftopcinemaclub.com
What other Black Cinema titles you’d like to see at our Rooftop and Drive-In cinemas? We are facing licensing restrictions right now due to COVID-19, but will do our best to include our community’s suggestions in upcoming programs throughout the year and beyond. #BlackLivesMatter
Tonight we reopen our Houston rooftop at BLVD Place, with upleveled safety measures to keep our guests and team members safe 💜 We're opening at 50% capacity, and cinema seating is now socially distanced so that there is ample space between each group (as seen in the video!). We are also offering a strictly chair-side service for all food and drink orders before the film to minimize group gathering and contact. To see our full list of safety measures, check out the Venue Info on this page: rftp.cc/blvd
Los Angeles / New York / San Diego – no update on our rooftops in those cities yet! We're working on it, but have to follow local and state guidelines of course. We'll do our best to make it work once movie theaters are approved to open at 50% capacity in your city. Stay tuned!
Houston, the Rooftop is BACK 🌇 With the ability to open at 50% capacity, we are opening our rooftop "doors" again on Tuesday, June 16! Tickets for the first two weeks of screenings are LIVE, and with half the seats usually available, we have a feeling they will go fast. Book now: https://bit.ly/2QBfSsE
In addition to the lower capacity, we are taking measures to uplevel safety at the venue. If you've been to the Rooftop before, there will definitely be some differences, but the overall experience and heart of our business will be the same. To see these measures outlined, check out the Venue Info section on the venue page.
For friends in our other cities, we know you're wondering when your local Rooftop will reopen. We continue to monitor state and local guidelines and will do our best to make it work once movie theaters can open at 50% capacity in your area. Stay tuned, and thank you for your patience 🙏
Film is not just an avenue for escapism – though we do love that about it at times. Film is also an avenue for education, growth, learning and unlearning. Film is an art form that allows us to watch stories unfold – stories that may expand our understanding of experiences different than our own, stories we never learned or didn’t learn enough about, or stories that help us make sense of our own experiences.
As film lovers ourselves, our instinct is to ask “what can we watch?” during this time as we dive deeper into anti-racism work. While we are committed to lifting black voices through programming at our outdoor cinemas, we also highly recommend taking a look at these suggestions on what to watch from home. We are grateful to everyone who made these resources available and hope this serves as a helpful reference for our community. Credit tagged in images and below. #BlackLivesMatter

Two new weeks of programming are live for The Drive-In at Sawyer Yards and The Drive-In at Spring 🎟️ Remember to look out for $5 Community Screenings! For one Community Screening per week, we will donate all proceeds to Black Lives Matter. Visit rooftopcinemaclub.com/houston
You can do nothing, you can do something, or you can…
Do the right thing.
More than 30 years after Spike Lee’s ground-breaking film confronting racism, we see similar scenes in real life continuing to play out today. Radio Raheem represents George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others. We stand in solidarity with everyone standing up to white supremacy and racial injustice.
We cannot stay silent, which is why we will dedicate a community screening per week at The Drive-In to the Black Lives Matter movement. We started these $5 community screenings in response to COVID-19 and have been committing all proceeds to the Houston Food Bank to help those in need during this time. But, we are dealing with two crises right now – a pandemic and systemic racism – and both need our attention. When we release the next round of programming for The Drive-In, 100% of the proceeds from the BLM community screening will be donated directly to @blklivesmatter.
We also pledge to continue to lift black voices by programming more films from black filmmakers, directors, storytellers and actors. Despite the licensing challenges currently in place, we will do our best to amplify these stories in the coming weeks and beyond.
And finally, we will be participating in #BlackoutTuesday tomorrow and will be silent across our social platforms so that we can take the time to listen, learn and reflect.
Love, Peace, Great Film & Justice, because it’s the right thing.

Can't wait to walk down the aisle.
In all seriousness, we hope everyone is continuing to stay safe, and we truly *cannot* wait to walk down the aisle of our rooftop cinemas once we can – but unfortunately we'll have to wait a bit longer. In our efforts to still (safely) provide Love, Peace & Great Film, we have The Drive-In at Sawyer Yards open in Houston, and we are trying to find suitable venues for drive-in theaters in our operating cities (LA, NYC & San Diego). Please keep in mind, we must respect local guidelines and are doing our best within these limitations. To find out about the opening of new venues and stay up-to-date on rooftop reopenings, we recommend signing up for our email updates: https://rooftopcinemaclub.com/#newsletter

On the day we open our first drive-in movie theater in the United States, our CEO and founder shares why drive-ins are so special to him and why their return is so important today.
"Drive-in theaters first arrived when the world was recovering from economic turmoil, and here it is again to help us on our way. It truly is an American institution that was made for times of recovery. We have missed you old friend."

Quick history lesson 📝 Our founder, Gerry, opened London's very first drive-in back in 2015! We ran this little piece of cinema history for three lovely years, until Rooftop Film Club took off and needed all our focus. Now, we're bringing what we learned to the U.S., and we couldn't be more excited!
As we enter another weekend in quarantine, our programmer has kindly graced us again with her streaming picks for the week 🙏📺 What else are you guys watching? #socialdistancing #lifeinquarantine
Now presenting The Drive-In at Sawyer Yards – our new contact-free cinema experience under the Houston sky! Screenings start Tuesday, May 12, and tickets are live NOW 🚘🎥 https://rooftopcinemaclub.com/houston/venue/the-drive-in-sawyer-yards/
With our rooftops closed, we’ve been working hard to bring some much-needed relief and escapism to our communities and are so thrilled to announce the opening of our first drive-in theater in the U.S. – built to be the safest, most comfortable way to see a movie outside your home in the age of social distancing. The heart and soul behind Rooftop Cinema Club is the same, but the way we operate will be a bit different! Here are some things to expect…
👉The safety of our guests and team members is our #1 priority. That why our services are entirely contactless. Vehicles will be parked at least 6 feet apart. You watch the movie from within your vehicle, and if going out for restrooms or food pick-up, we encourage face masks and social distancing at all times.
👉Tickets will be priced by vehicle, regardless of occupancy.
👉You are welcome to bring your own food, but we will also serve food and drink with contact-free order and pick-up.
👉All ages are welcome, and the first screening each night will feature family-friendly films. We released one week of programming to start, but more screenings are coming soon!
👉We’d love to see you and your quaran-team enjoying a night out, from the safety of your own vehicle! Share your photos and videos by tagging us @rooftopcinemaclub and hashtagging #RCCDriveIn.
If you’re not in Houston, we KNOW you’re wondering when we’re bringing The Drive-In to you. Please know, we’re working to find suitable drive-in venues in our operating cities. We also must respect local guidelines and are doing our best within these limitations. More venues should be coming soon!
