Animo Jackie Robinson Theatre and Drama

Animo Jackie Robinson Theatre and Drama The AJR Drama Department gives students a space to grow as young artists who strive to make a difference in other people's lives.

The Animo Jackie Robinson Drama Department produces theatre for the South Los Angeles community. In the spring of 2011 we produced Arthur Miller's "The Crucible," last spring we produced "Romeo and Juliet." This Spring, we are producing "Noises Off."

Mission: We strive to create quality theatre that fosters growth in confidence, voice, and literacy. Our after school Drama Club is a safe space for Los Angeles youth to expand their creativity and make friends.

Performing arts instrumental in school success

A great article that proves that the arts has a positive impact on “attendance,” “children's emotional and social wellbeing” and an even greater impact on a child’s resilience. It is of “concern” that the arts are “often sidelined by schools, particularly with the unrelenting focus on literacy and numeracy, with an estimated 700,000 primary students across the nation missing out on any arts education.”

TEACHING the performing arts in primary schools significantly boosts the results disadvantaged students achieve in academic subjects.

"The rapidly evolving global economy demands a dynamic and creative workforce. The arts and its related businesses are responsible for billions of dollars in cultural exports for this country. It is imperative that we continue to support the arts and arts education both on the national and local levels. The strength of every democracy is measured by its commitment to the arts.”
–Charles Segars, CEO of Ovation
