Theatre Mustard Seed A Fledgling Theatre Company

Theatre should not be ‘good’; it should not be ‘great; ‘exceptional’; ‘brilliant’—theatre should be Ethereal. Mustard Seed espouses the mentality that a marriage between the primal and the celestial aspects of a human are essential to creating theatre that truly lives and breathes. C.S. Lewis ventures that humans are amphibious: half animal and half spirit; therefore we have a predisposition to be in perpetual internal and external conflict. It is our opinion that living a full human life means embracing the primal and celestial in our bodies, minds and souls. We desire to present theatre that is scripturally and directorially vulnerable, strong, intelligent, and instinctual. We desire to consecrate the marriage of the primal and the celestial through our work as playwrights, directors, actors and designers in order to allow the audience to do the same as human beings. Theatre should change people but not necessarily through an information medium— but through a soulful one. Let us begin to grow from the inside out; we’re already ephemeral, why fear filling ourselves to the brim with the light and the dark? A wee bit of history... BEIRUT by Alan Bowen was the debut production directed by Bill Voorhees featuring David Campfield, Jessicah Neufeld and Sean Williams in July 2010. It received rave reviews and closed to sold out houses. Shortly after the final performance, Neufeld moved to Los Angeles where she joined the acclaimed Theatre of N.O.T.E. From there, she and Voorhees collaborated once again on Arthur Miller's THE CRUCIBLE in July 2012 which was the final spark of inspiration to bring Mustard Seed from Sacramento to LA. I could not have asked for a more exciting, encouraging, and inspiring evening in that charming little theatre. We had the best audience one could ever ask for and the cast has made me really excited to press forward-- y'all rocked it tonight! Much love and gratitude to Larry, Phil, Emily, Ben, Phillip, Joel, Jacques, and Paul.
