LA STAGE INSIDER | LA STAGE TIMES

Time for a VERY BIG Announcement... Many of you may just be hearing about the fact that the El Centro Theatre has new owners. When this historic building was put on the market for sale, we were very concerned about its future - much of Hollywood has become condos these days - and almost 60 years of theatre history might have been gone in the blink of an eye. We weren't sure what we could do to help insure its safety or its future, but fate was on our side, and when we shared the information of its sale with some very special folks, a roller coaster ride of change took off at maximum speed. The result, two amazing guys and two extraordinary Theatre Companies are now the proud new owners of a piece of history.

It's a big change and we are very excited about it! This amazing building will not only remain a theatre, it is about to start a wonderful new chapter in its history. We're not only blessed that these amazing companies are taking over, we will even get to remain a part of its future and work with them to continue to manage this very special space. Congratulations Matt & James - we know that she is in great hands! http://www.lastagetimes.com/2012/05/la-stage-insider-68/

NEWS… Founder and AD of Black Dahlia Theatre Matt Shakman has partnered with James Roday, co-AD of Red Dog Squadron, to purchase historic El Centro Theatre in Hollywood. Black Dahlia and Red Dog, which are dedicated to the development of new works, will be the resident companies. The two-stage compl...

Running this weekend on our Circle Stage, "Out of Gas on Lovers Leap" by Mark St. Germain.

It is the night of their high-school graduation and Myst and Grouper, two bright, well-to-do teenagers, have driven to the local lovers leap for a private celebration. Myst is seventeen, and the daughter of a fading rock star of dubious morals; Grouper is also seventeen, and the son of an ambitious, self-important U.S. Senator. Myst is determined to deprive Grouper of his virginity, but he wants to wait until they are married and settled into domesticity. As they drink beer, smoke pot and engage in sharply amusing, yet disheartening, interplay, it becomes increasingly evident that they are very lost young souls whose ideals have been sadly eroded by the shoddy, self-centered example of their elders. In the end they do make love, but it proves to be only a brief respite before their pasts encroach on the present and, inevitably, overwhelm it with terrible and heartrending results.
