The Magic Bullet Theory - The Play

The Magic Bullet Theory - The Play We are proud to announce that The Magic Bullet Theory will be remounting at the Matrix Theater starting November 8
(14)

There are several mysteries which continually fascinate the human mind: the true meaning of the lyrics to Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, the location of the lost Tribes of Israel, where does that one sock go before I open the dryer and who assassinated President Kennedy on November 22, 1963. John Lennon and G-d aren’t talking and the ISS (International Sock Syndicate) left a blood stained white sock I wore last week in my bed. S...o dear reader, you must draw your own conclusions on those three issues. However, The Sacred Fools Theatre Company can offer some guidance as to the murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Originally conceived as part of the late-night Serial Killers series, The Magic Bullet Theory opens November 8, 2012 at the legendary Matrix Theater in Los Angeles. The play, brought to you from the twisted minds of Terry Tocantins and Alex Zola, answers not only the who but the why. (I don’t know was not allowed to leave his position at 3rd.) Come on down and find out: *Who fired the headshot! *Was Woody Harrelson’s father really involved? *How the Warren Commission came up with the Magic Bullet Theory! *How aliens brainwashed Oliver Stone into making JFK and growing a Tin Horn Dictators mustache! (Well maybe not. After all, no one really gets Oliver Stone anyway.) The Magic Bullet Theory – by Terry Tocantins and Alex Zola Directed by JJ Mayes at the Matrix Theater 7657 Melrose Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90046 Thursday November 8 - Saturday December 15 Thurs-Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 7pm For directions please visit http://www.matrixtheater.com

This Ain't Your Father's Conspiracy Theory. November 22, 1963. America goes through the looking glass. The only thing anyone knows for sure is that someone murdered The President. Earl Warren had a take on it. So did Oliver Stone. Plenty of other kooks. Why can't we? Come and join our anti hero Charlie as he negotiates a trail littered with murder, betrayal, drugs, ghosts and yes, dear reader, Love. The Sacred Fools Theatre has been going there since 1997. Itshows are critically acclaimed audience pleasers. For more about the fools visit www.sacredfools.org The writers of this play, Alex Zola and Terry Tocantins, promise no answers. But we can say, just like Lee Harvey Oswald, We Did Not Act Alone.

Expect lawsuit over city’s Dealey Plaza plans for Kennedy assassination’s 50th

"Magic Bullet Theory" street performance on Dealey Plaza for the 50th anniversary? Don't bet on it, if the city of Dallas has their way, there will be restricted access on November 22, 2013. Not that there are plans for a MBT performance on the streets of Dealey Plaza in Dallas, but we'd like that option.

Recall that City Hall and Mayor Mike Rawlings' special committee on the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination plan to restrict access to Dealey Plaza next Nov. 22 for a short commemoration ceremony. It may not be all that neat and tidy. Expect a lawsuit, says prominent JFK assassination ...

The Magic Bullet Theory

Thanksgiving Day 2012: the 49th anniversary of the JFK assassination. Has America moved on? Has America given up ever knowing the truth? Is it still “off limits” to laugh at the absurdity of the “accident,” “cover-up” or “assassination conspiracies”?

Is it “too soon,” as one reviewer said? Magic Bullet Theory explores the familiar players involved- -the mob, the CIA, the Cubans, JFK, Jackie Kennedy, Lee Harvey Oswald, Jack Ruby, Arlen Specter, Earl Warren and “The Texan” aka “The Hat,” an amalgamated character based on several historic people including LBJ and E. Howard Hunt.

Then, there is Charlie Harrelson. That day in Dallas, something was not right with Charlie. Was it too much coke, booze, horse tranquilizer, sex, Geritol® or one too many hits on the head? Tocantins portrays Charlie, who was actor Woody Harrelson’s estranged father who died in prison in 2007 where he was serving two life terms for killing a Federal Judge.

Dear George Noory,
If you are looking for experts on JFK conspiracy theories, Alex Zola and Terry Tocantins, co-writers of MAGIC BULLET THEORY would make great guests. The only problem is, that Alex Zola was abducted by space aliens yesterday and they were supposed to bring him back today... long story. He has not been dropped off yet, BUT if he is returned by Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd -- the 29th anniversary of the JFK assassination-- we will get him in your studio or on the phone to talk about his and Terry's unique take on the assassination any time you are game! Best, The Bullet

The Magic Bullet Theory: Terry Tocantins and Alex Zola's The Magic Bullet Theory is the second play to be produced locally this year focusing on the 1963 JFK assassination. Dennis Richard's Oswald: The Actual Interrogation performed in January and February at Write-Act Repertory, combined the noir melodrama of Dragnet and Law and Order, honoring the almost theological conviction of baby boomers that those three shots heard around the world in November 1963 represented the beginning of the end of innocence for the United States. The Magic Bullet Theory, however, written and produced by post-baby boomers, defies all such reverence, and with that defiance carries a healthy skepticism that any era of American history, or any other history for that matter, was innocent. Its larger point is its derision for the controversial single- or "magic" bullet theory. As directed by JJ Mayes, it presents a sketch-comedy conspiracy, irreverently choreographed by Natasha Norman, that unambiguously leaves the Warren Commission report in tatters. In fact, one scene dramatizes the single-bullet theory with an actor holding a bullet, which carries a tail of red string, from the assassin's rifle to and through the passengers (actors posing dutifully in a cardboard cutout of the open sedan). The scene demonstrates the trajectory of the bullet, which would have almost had to reverse directions in midair to support the single-bullet theory, in the meantime slicing through 15 layers of clothing, about 15 inches of tissue and a necktie knot, taking out a chunk of rib and shattering a radius bone. (This point of view also could be found in Oliver Stone's movie JFK as well as its parody on Seinfeld.) The play replaces that theory with a highly speculative suggestion that the assassination was a botched conspiracy, headed by The Texan (Rick Steadman) -- Lyndon Baines Johnson goes unnamed -- employing a couple of "Yale-F**k" killers (Pete Caslavka and Monica Greene), as well as Oswald (Michael Holmes), plus Charles Harrelson (Tocantins), who, with Oswald by his side, fires shots before placing the murdering rifle into dimwit Oswald's hands, thereby also supporting the notion that Oswald was framed. Life may be stranger than fiction, but this fiction hangs on the most tenuous of threads: that the Texas contingent and the CIA were so peeved by President Kennedy's soft handling of Cuba, they just wanted to scare him, to let him know what they could do if he didn't stand up to Castro. In flashback, we see The Texan order the parade slowed to 10 miles an hour so the hired guns could fire and miss, sending a message, Mafia-style. But something went terribly, terribly wrong. Imagine the JFK assassination replayed by Monty Python. The Brit sketch-comedy troupe infuriated millions of Catholics with its version of the Crucifixion in Life of Brian. (The crowd whistles to the lyric "Always look on the bright side of life" as the Savior hangs and nods in rhythm.) The Magic Bullet Theory is a comparatively local sacrilege -- a couple of thugs dance in slo-mo, mock anguish whenever they see somebody killed. The production dances gleefully with nihilism, finding its footing somewhere between bravery and childishness. (Steven Leigh Morris). Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 7 p.m. Continues through Dec. 15, plays411.com/magicbullet. Matrix Theatre, 7657 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, 323-852-1445, www.matrixtheatre.com.

The reviews are in! "I laughed more than I did at BOOK OF MORMON,. It is BETTER than Book of Mormon." said a friend of co-writer Alex Zola who flew in from Detroit for the original run of the play. "I'm going back to LA to see it again in November, even though Book of Mormon is playing there, I'm seeing The Magic Bullet Theory, again and again and again. I'll never see Book of Mormon again, if Magic Bullet Theory is in town!"
