Just because we're stuck at home doesn't mean you can't enjoy great films with us. Check out our second Melnitz Movies Staff Pick with TRAIN TO BUSAN and let us know what you think! FYI: Its sequel, Peninsula, will be releasing this year.

🎥
Why it's Melnitz Approved:
"It adds something more to traditional action-packed zombie movies. The film reminds us of the importance of altruism and helping others in times of crisis. It's suspenseful, heart-felt, and funny in all the right places."

Just because we're stuck at home doesn't mean you can't enjoy great films with us. Check out our first Melnitz Movies Staff Pick with BIG TIME ADOLESCENCE and let us know what you think!

🎥
Why it's Melnitz Approved:
"It's a fresh take on what is usually a typical high school story. It's a coming-of-age drama that doesn't point fingers at the bad guy. You will relate and sympathize with all of the characters, even when you think you won't." -

Critic's Notebook: Why '90 Day Fiancé' and 'Portrait of a Lady on Fire' Are Perfect Quarantine Viewing

French filmmaker Céline Sciamma called her film, PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE, “a manifesto about the female gaze”. A period drama about lesbian romance, currently streaming on Hulu!

The coronavirus crisis is altering viewing tastes and tendencies, turning stories of constraint and restriction — from claustrophobic reality TV to hushed lesbian period dramas — into small-screen comfort food.

You Can Now Watch One of the Best Movies of the Year at Home

While we're still bummed that we couldn't bring you this Sundance hit at Melnitz Movies, the most anticipated film of 2020 is now available on Amazon Prime. #stayin

"As for how people consume the film now in the privacy of their homes, Hittman just wants it to get to the same audience for which it was always intended: Young women. "'First and foremost, I hope young women discover it, young women in this country who would identify with the main character, obviously. It's an ongoing conversation that we keep having about how we can reach them.'"

Watch it at home.

Locarno Jury Chief Catherine Breillat on Cinema, Gender, Controversy

Catherine Breillat on why “36 Fillette” wasn’t well-received at first: “I think people were shocked by something that I didn’t find shocking at all – adolescence. I didn’t invent the way adolescents acted and spoke; I simply copied what I saw and heard from the ones around me, but that shocked people; they hated it. I think it was ahead of its time...to see a film that was savaged when it came out, celebrated 20 years later… that’s a great joy for a director.”

How assistants, and 'The Assistant,' are challenging the culture of Hollywood

“The shocking thing was, these stories were so similar no matter where they’d worked or who they’d worked for,” Kitty Green. “I realized that there was a lot there to talk about, which wasn’t focused on these predatory men, but instead on the system that keeps these men in place and keeps women out.”
