GREAT SELECTION OF VINTAGE MOVIE POSTERS

Attack of the 50 Foot Woman is an independently made 1958 American black-and-white science fiction film, produced by Bernard Woolner, directed by Nathan H. Juran (credited as Nathan Hertz), that stars Allison Hayes, William Hudson, and Yvette Vickers.

The storyline concerns the plight of a wealthy heiress whose close encounter with an enormous alien in his round spacecraft causes her to grow into a giantess, complicating her marriage already troubled by a philandering husband.

Attack of the 50 Foot Woman is a takeoff of other 1950s science fiction films that featured size-changing humans: The Amazing Colossal Man, its sequel War of the Colossal Beast, and The Incredible Shrinking Man. In this case a woman is substituted for a man as the film's protagonist.

THE 1933 HARLEY DAVIDSON 74 BIG TWIN MODEL POSTER

Harley-Davidson, Inc. (or Harley) was founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1903.

As one of two major American motorcycle manufacturers to survive the Great Depression (along with Indian), the company has survived numerous ownership arrangements, subsidiary arrangements (e.g., Aermacchi 1974-1978 and Buell 1987-2009), periods of poor economic health and product quality, as well as intense global competition to become one of the world's largest motorcycle manufacturers and an iconic brand widely known for its loyal following, with owner clubs and events worldwide as well as a company sponsored brand-focused museum.

Noted for a style of customization that gave rise to the chopper motorcycle style, Harley-Davidson traditionally marketed heavyweight, air-cooled cruiser motorcycles with engine displacements greater than 700 cm³ and has broadened its offerings to include its more contemporary VRSC (2002) and middle-weight Street (2015) platforms.

Harley-Davidson manufactures its motorcycles at factories in York, Pennsylvania; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Kansas City and Missouri.

IS THIS THE END OF THE CAT WOMAN?

DC Comics is one of the largest and oldest American comic book companies, and produces material featuring numerous well-known heroic characters including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, Black Canary, Hawkman, Supergirl, Hawkgirl, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Cyborg, Static, Zatanna, and Shazam. Most of their material takes place in the fictional DC Universe, which also features teams such as the Justice League, the Justice Society of America, the Su***de Squad, and the Teen Titans, and well-known villains such as the Joker, Lex Luthor, The Cheetah, Darkseid, Catwoman, Ra's al Ghul, Deathstroke, Reverse-Flash, Sinestro, Black Adam, and Brainiac. The company has also published non-DC Universe-related material, including Watchmen, V for Vendetta.

The initials "DC" came from the company's popular series Detective Comics, which featured Batman's debut and subsequently became part of the company's name.

HISTORY OF FLORIDA LINEN POSTCARDS

Linen postcards were printed in the United States from the 1930s until the 1950s. Linen refers to the surface texture of the postcard—prior to the early 1930s, it was not economically feasible to print anything of quality on embossed papers.

Two of the key traits of linen postcards are their saturated colors, recalling the Phostints produced by the Detroit Photographic Company in the early part of the century, and their soft focus, the result of the cards’ uneven surfaces. Many linen postcards also had white borders, a stylistic holdover from the postcards published after World War I and throughout the 1920s. And while many of the artists who were popular during the heyday of the artist-signed-postcards era at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries are not well represented in linen, most of the major postcard categories are, from comic postcards to scenics (also called “views”) to travel and lodging cards, including the popular large-letter postcards.

HISTORY OF FLORIDA CITRUS CRATE LABELS

Lithography began in the late 1800’s, with the first crate label most likely beginning in California. Labels were prolific as advertising, not only for citrus, but also vegetables and other fruits that were shipped in the wooden crates that were common at the time. The crate label lasted until shortly after World War II, when shortages of wood and metal brought about the invention of cardboard boxes with pre-printed brand names. These new cardboard boxes eventually took the place of the traditional wooden box for packing purposes and signaled the beginning of the end for citrus crate labels.

However, the sixty-year span during which the labels were used carries a colorful history of the early advertising and marketing of the delicious products for which they stood. In the case of Florida citrus, these sometimes whimsical labels were also a form of colorized billboards for Florida.

Much of the artwork was done by the popular artists of the time, but since it was considered commercial work, none were ever signed. The major printer of lithographic labels in Florida was the Florida Grower Press in Tampa.

Many of the old packinghouses are no longer in business today, but there still remain a few of those who have been able to weather the ups and downs of the citrus business and who still use some of the same brand names today, although not the labels.

GREAT SELECTION OF HISTORICAL VINTAGE PHOTOGRAPHS

This Vintage Fashion Photograph is widely considered the 1940's finest, and it was taken at "Weeki Wachee Spring" in Florida. It was originally published in Harper’s Bazaar in 1947. While “Weeki Wachee Spring, Florida” is its somewhat official title, it has sometimes been referred to as “Lady in the Water.”

GREAT SELECTION OF VINTAGE FLORIDA PRINTS ON CANVAS

George M. Shellhase, was a noted artist-reporter whose work has been exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, N.Y., The Illustrator’s Club N.Y. and The Norton Museum of Art in Palm Beach, among many other fine art institutions. His drawings have appeared in The New Yorker, The New Your Times Magazine, Esquire and The Palm Beach Post, just to mention a few. Shellhase was a resident of Ocean Ridge, in Palm Beach County for more than half of his life. His style and techniques where a combination of pen and pencil drawings with water color details. But he was mostly recognized for his cartoons in the New Yorker in the 40’s and 50’s.

Shellhase died in 1980 at the age of 93. The work WE SELL EXCLUSIVELY at MUNDO VINTAGE, was printed from originals found in the attic of his house, and it illustrates South Florida in the 1940’s and 50’s.
