We are looking for pat-time caregivers for a young man who lives near 1-25 and Arapahoe Road. He does Special Olympics golf and bowling and is active in many activities. He likes art, cooking, movies, and has two Guinea pigs.

$20/hr. He has an intellectual disability and requires support both in and out of the house to make good decisions. Must be a caring person, 18+, and have a reliable car to drive him around. A wide variety of schedules are available, some of which include being his job coach. There are even options for overnight shifts. Hiring part-time support staff for young adult males who live in south Aurora, to explore the community in a groups of two or sometimes three. Looking for daytime shifts on Monday and one weekend day with potential extra hours if desired.

This position provides support to assist and encourage independence in personal choice, safety, independent living, social skills, community access, and recreation. Personal skills that help are consistency, the ability to think two steps ahead of the situation, patience to pause to allow clients to process and respond, good listening skills, creative problem solving, and the energy to have fun!

The clients have Autism or similar Dx and are high functioning. Duties take place in the community. A typical day would start with a workout at the local gym, then either a longer activity or two shorter ones, eating an inexpensive lunch out sometime during the session. They love riding the light rail, but some locations will require you to drive them in your car. They like hiking a wide variety of places (they have state park passes), fishing, the zoo, bowling, water parks, and museums. They need support in decision making and handling situations that may arise, as well as time for transition from one activity to the next. The next session is planned jointly during lunch, determining transportation needs, tickets, hours of operation, distance, potential lunch places, and timing.

Job Requirements
• Valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation
• Stellar communication skills, written and verbal (documentation is required)
• Age 18+ and the ability to pass a background check
• CRP / First Aid (or BLS); experience with IDD or Autism is a plus
• Interpersonal skills to effectively, positively, and energetically interact with persons with IDD.
