heir popularity, due partly to the media frenzy surrounding the Taco Bell ads (remember “Yo quiero taco bell”?), Paris Hilton and friends sporting the tiny breed like it was a new purse, as well as films such as Beverly Hills Chihuahua, has lead to overpopulation, with “breeders” both professional and amateur (often refereed to as “back yard” breeders) trying to cash in. The result of this has been the Chihuahua being looked at as just a toy, a commodity, something to be thrown away when the owner realizes they are no longer just cute helpless puppies or dolls but real dogs that need to be cared for as such. There are countless cases every year of Chihuahuas being tortured and abused for no other reason then people just do not see them for the living, feeling, loving beings they really are. We will be the voice for the breed. We will stand up for them and will work to change the way both society sees them and media portrays them. We will get them out of the shelters where they are left to die and into good homes with people who love them and respect the breed.
