It doesn't take a firearm to be a dangerous person.

Did you ever notice the strange phenomenon which occurs when a martial arts instructor grabs a student's arm, or leg for a demonstration? The phenomenal occurrence is the rest of the student's limbs seem to be incapable of motion and thus unable to be used against the instructor.
I'm not a martial artist, so I probably just don't know how to grab properly in order to paralyze the other limbs. Either that, or I didn't worry about students thinking I was a mystical spirit warrior, or some other nonsense. I just wanted people who took a self-defense class to understand that the badguys are going to keep fighting even if the self-defender is twisting one of the attacker's wrists; the off hand can keep swinging and it's important to know that.

A few years ago, I bought a two pack of these for $16.00. I had very little hope they were worth a damn, but I have been pleasantly surprised by them. They're certainly not the best blades in the house, but they work fine for clearing light brush, briars, and saplings. With that in mind, I have every confidence they would give reasonable service if they were the only thing someone had available for self defense. As such, if you can find some for a good price, it might be worth buying a few to stash around your house, garage, tool shed, or similar spots. They're certainly more expensive now than they were a few years ago, everything is, but they're probably still cheap enough that it doesn't feel as wrong to keep a few in less than optimal storage conditions.
Just something to think about.

I just saw an interview with a guy who's supposed to be a former Vietnam era special forces operator. He said he used to load his 12 gauge with a stack of nickels. Perhaps he was misremembering. Perhaps he's a fu***ng fraud. Given his claim that he blew a V.C. entirely in half at the waist with it, I am inclined to believe the latter.
The accompanying photograph demonstrates my reasoning. It's a Mossberg Maverick 88 with a cylinder bore barrel and the nickel is more or less the same diameter as the EXTERIOR of the barrel.

High Power History! 600 yard Zero and the Mil Dot Reticle. Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. An age before laser rangefinders, Christmas tree reticles and the coming of the Creedmoors. In the days of old marksman would often use a 600 yard zero on their Mil Dot reticle, and then use the upper and lower dots for hasty elevation hold points rather than dialing. This system was fast and simple, with the rifleman needing only to account for lead/wind. While Mil Dots are long forgotten today, in the not so distant past they were once State of the Art.
